Have you all heard about the initiative to adopt an ordinance requiring

a fee on supermarket check-out bags in San Francisco? As I understand

it, the idea is to recoup the costs the city incurs in the disposal of

check-out bags and to encourage people to bring their own re-useable

bags instead. Reducing the disposal of plastic bags could save over

100,000 marine animals which die every year from plastic entanglement

or ingestion of plastic bags. Read more about the connection between

plastic bags and the marine environment in this article:

" The Plastic Sea "

You can read the SF Gov Bag Free Resolution No. 007-04-COE here:

http://temp.sfgov.org/sfenvironment/aboutus/policy/resolution/007-04.htm

And you can pick up your own re-useable bags made to support this

resolution at www.17centbags.com

Take care everybody,

Rachel
