After 2 weeks of punching in my raw diet on fitday.com, I

ran a report. My totals for the

following nutrients were low.

Iron (53%)

Zinc (37%)

Selenium (37%)

Calcium (49%)

Phosphorous (91%)

Niacin (90%)

B12 (0%)

Vit. D (0)…obviously sun exposure was not included

in the report.

I really felt I was eating a good variety/balance of foods

during this span, and got 100% or more of the other key nutrients…however,

I am concerned about these lacking nutrients. Some of them come from grains/dairy

and/or meat! Obviously I’d

like to get them from other sources.

Does anyone know good sources of these nutrients? I am surprised calcium is low….I

love and eat what I thought would be sufficient amounts of broccoli.

I also know they skew the USRDA a little high, so maybe it

is not a too big a deal. However, I

am leaning towards taking a supplement, though I honestly feel if raw is right,

supplementation is not only a waste of money, but ineffective.

Any input would be great.

Thanks in advance.

BEV :)

Greetings Beverly:

A little homework for you. Go to the following sites for help with some research on how to acquire nutrients:

www.coosemans.com offers world-wide produce information and some nutrient values. This site is loaded with all kinds of produce.

www.thefruitpages.com offers a wealth of information on mostly fruits and vege-fruits. Just click on everything from the home page, I promise you will not become bored.

Refer to message #109 in the group for additional web sites that provide loads of information and when all else fails, remember to just " www.askjeeves.com ". He'll tell you, he knows everything

Good Health to you

Elaine

Peace Bev,

Vitamin B-12 is one of those vital nutrients that many vegetarians

are seriously lacking. According to " Prescriptions For Nutritional

Healing " brewers yeast & spirulina are excellent sources of b-12.

Hi Scott...

suggest doing a search for B12 - it's been discussed here recently.

(there's a very recent article I posted about how to search

also....;=) )

re: other nutrients and vitamins: tons and tons of them in raw

fruits...almost none that aren't plentiful.

why do you ask?

all the best,

Thanks Bob,

I didn't catch your info on searching for B-12. The reason I'm asking is it

seemed like by reading some posts b-12 is important and I started to think I'm I

getting enough? Do you have info on drinking wheatgrass I heard its best on

empty stomach. I drank an once this morning then ate lettuce felt sick for an

hr.

Thanks Bob
