A group of about 50 wild elephants are reported to have caused damages at Bahundaing, Shantinagar, Mechinagar and Budhbare villages of Jhapa district, some 300 km east of Kathmandu, as they went on berserk destroying the harvested crops of farmers and eating up fruits in orchards as well, the radio said. Not only that, lives of local people too have been threatened by the wild elephants' rampage. Presently, a tunnel is being constructed in the area in order to check sporadic rampage of wild elephants. But locals are also seeking for special initiatives from the government and wildlife conservation organizations as efforts at local level are not enough to tide over the problem, the radio added.
