India is planning to heavily subsidize the conversion to or production of 150-200 large scale longline vessels and introduce intermediate sized longline vessels in Indian waters. This will put endangered sea turtles, sharks and seabirds as well as billfish at further risk of extinction and threaten local small scale fishing communities. Please send a letter to the Minister for Agriculture urging him to reverse his decision at: http://www.seaturtles.org/actionalertdetails.cfm?actionAlertID=94 While an email letter is good, a fax, mailed letter or even phone call is better. Thank you for your help, Robert Ovetz -- Robert Ovetz, Ph.D. Save the Leatherback Campaign Coordinator Sea Turtle Restoration Project PO Box 400 Forest Knolls, CA 94933 USA +1 415 488 0370 ext. 106 +1 415 488 0372 (fax) www.seaturtles.org ***sign our petition to the UN calling for a moratorium on Pacific longlining*** http://www.savetheleatherback.com ***sign up for our email action alerts*** http://www.seaturtles.org/joinlistserv.cfm ___________________________ -- _______________ You received this message as a r on the list: alerts To be removed from the list, send any message to: alerts- For all list information and functions, including changing your subscription mode and options, visit the Web page: http://lists.seaturtles.org/lists/info/alerts
