Guest guest
This is in continuation of my message sent a few minutes ago. I do not have Jayasimha's e-mail id so I am sending this out through aapn. The letter of Dr. Nanditha Krishna to the Member Secretary of the CZA and the information given by Dr. Brij Kumar Gupta of CZA are pasted below: Shri. B. R. Sharma, Member Secretary, Central Zoo Authority, Bikaner House, Annexe VI, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi 110 011. Dear Shri. Sharma, I have received several letters from animal rights activists about the following matter: The Olympic Circus has 11 tigers, 2 lions, 2 bears and one monkey. They have been kept in cages for the past 5 years in a field outside Kolkata and are dying of starvation and lack of movement because the circus owners do not provide the funds to feed them. In spite of the letter written by the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) to PETA India, the state government says they do not have money for their transportation. I believe the old cages are falling apart. It is shocking that CZA has not taken the responsibility of transporting these animals and installing them in one of the five rescue centres. It is not enough to have laws and rules: It is also imperative for the government and government agencies to enforce and implement these rules. I am writing to request you to kindly take immediate action to ensure that cages are made available for transporting these animals to a rescue centre. I am asking Mr. Jayasimha of PETA India to be in touch with you, so that we can arrange for the immediate transportation and rescue of these animals. It is not correct that we take animals out of the wild and do not take the responsibility of caring for them. With regards, Yours sincerely, Dr. Nanditha Krishna Hon. Director ====================================== Chinny Dr. Brij Kishore Gupta, Scientist, CZA, informed Dr. T. Sundaramurthi, Head, Biodiversity Conservation Education at C.P.R. Environmental Education Centre that, in view of the fact that the existing 5 rescue centres have exceeded their carrying capacity, CZA has sanctioned 3 more rescue centres for Bhopal, Calcutta and Bhubaneshwar. Money was released two months ago to Kolkata for the construction of the rescue centre and absorption of the Olympic Circus animals. Could somebody on Kolkata find out what has happened? PETA, USA is getting in increasing trouble over bad ethics, supporting terrorist organisations and actual cruelty to animals. They are under prosecution at this minute. I heard so much credit about your organisation when I was in the Nilgiri Hills last year that I should hate to see it suffer. Perhaps a change of name may be appropriate ?
