Asking for your kind help-PHILIPPINES

Hi to all the staff of AAPN ORGANIZATION and to all the Animal

Welfare Advocate around the globe. I am Jay B. Tongga, from the

Philippines.

I'm an animal behaviorist, a professional pet groomer and a dedicated

rescuer both to human and animals. My skills in professional pet

handling

and control pushed me to contribute myself and my time in helping

local

animal shelter and some animal welfare group to humanely catch stray

animals

for safekeeping. Philippines is a place where animal welfare is a

strange

thing. In the metropolis you can still witnessed a dog being

slaughtered

by

steel pipe, smashes it against the head many times. Sick and mange

dogs

and

cats roaming all over the streets are familiar scenario and not to

mention

the growing number of rabid cases.

With all of these problems in a country with a burgeoning human

population

and masses of urban poor people can still manage to indiscriminately

get

animals and convert them to table food later, and if not abandoned

them

because they are no longer cute and cuddly. Philippines has only one

animal

shelter that admits animals in a conditional basis. Few city pounds

that

inhumanely treat the dogs in cramped cages although there is a

Philippine

law, Republic Act 8485 or commonly known as Animal Welfare Act, that

encourages government-run pound to humanely treat the animals in their

possession but to no avail. And there are also some animal rights

group

that

is being run by elite, socialite and individuals known in the business

community. These groups will only be seen in pet related event done

in

malls

where media mileages are abundant but, in a dirty works like picking

up

mange and sick animals and those who are ran-over by speeding

vehicles

no

more.

Complementing efforts to help the growing cases of abused and

abandoned

animals is my life concern and with a few friends on my sides we

dedicated

our lives to this great cause. But, in a place where we live our

personal

income would mean food for our family and kids, modest lives is what

most of

us dwell. Nobody among us own a personal car or any form of

transportation.

When we rescue an animal we hire a 3-wheeled motorcycle and we use

steel

pipe and nylon hook on its end imitating the original catchpoles.

Unfortunately, most of the time the animals hurt through the process

and

sadly sometimes they're almost accidentally killed. We have to catch

them by

using catchpoles because most of them are aggressive and suspected

rabid.

Then we put them in large recycled paper boxes because plastic

carrier

here

is very expensive.

In this regard, we are appealing to AAPN and to all of your kind

supporters

to donate us your old or used shelter equipments, as long as its

functional

its alright with us. Our priorities are catching poles, catching nets,

plastic carrier of different sizes, tranquilizer gun, informative

reading

and video materials concerning animal rights and welfare and the rest

its up

to you to decide.

We are very sorry and very sad that we cannot make any counterpart to

our

appeal in asking donations from you. Even the freight from point of

origin

to point of destination, which I think, what donors usually asked

from

their

recipients.

We can only give our prayers that the AAPN ORGANIZATION and all the

people

involved with it will be blessed abundantly. God sees us on what we

are

doing to His creations and I'm sure He will always be there to find

ways

for

us.

We are extending our deepest thanks. GOD SPEED.

Dear Mr. Tongga,

I was very moved and appalled to read about the suffering of animals in the

Philippines, in your letter. I am also grateful that there are kind and

compassionate people like you who care enough about animals to try to help them

even

when it's very difficult to do so. I, like you, and many others care deeply

about animals and their suffering.

I will contact several animals rights organizations which should be aware of

the situation of animals in the Philippines and help individuals like you who

are struggling all by yourselves to help the stray dog and cats. I suggest

you do the same.

I truly hope that everyone who reads your letter, either organizations or

individuals will try to help your cause in some way, as I will try to help you

in

any way I can. May God bless you for all that you do for the animals in the

Philippines.

Sincerely,

Patricia Vargas

Hi, Jay here. I wrote this article "Asking for your kind help-PHILIPPINES" some 10 years ago. Lots of things change for the past one decade but my dedication towards animal welfare remains the same. I hope people who read that article many years ago will still do the same. Then and again, we still appeal to animal welfare advocate to give and share you support in our cause.

Due to unavoidable circumstances we are no longer resides on that address and we also change our contact details. But, the good thing was that verification is no longer a big issue. Just for the benefit of the doubt and to avoid others to think that we are trying to tamper or edit the content of the said article we urged you to visit our social networking sites (and so to speak be one of us).
