Doctor Dogmeat muzzled by pet lovers

--

Mail this story to a friend | Printer friendly version

SOUTH KOREA: January 16, 2002

SEOUL - Hounded by pet lovers, South Korean dogmeat proponents were forced to

postpone a major event planned for this week to promote canine cuisine and fight

off international critics.

Feisty animal lovers' phone calls prompted the owner of the venue to withdraw

its offer to rent space to a would-be dogmeat restaurant federation that planned

to launch a campaign to promote the meat to tourists before and during the World

Cup.

" There were complaints from animal lovers, " said Kim Yoong-kwan, spokesman for

KT Corp, the state-owned telephone company which owns the hall outside Seoul

where the dogmeat convention was to be held.

" We cancelled our plan to rent the building as we had allowed them to use the

building on the assumption there will be a seminar, not something like an

opening ceremony, " he said of the unwanted publicity.

Some 100 dogmeat restaurant owners were to launch their federation on Monday

with an appearance by a college professor dubbed " Doctor Dogmeat " who boasts 350

canine recipes and a development strategy for the Korean dogmeat industry.

Dogs are bred to be eaten in South Korea, notably in poshintang, literally " body

preservation stew " , which advocates say is good for your health and which is

considered a delicacy by some.

The eating of dogmeat in Korea caused particular alarm abroad and among animal

rights activists in South Korea ahead of the 2002 World Cup soccer finals as

some dogs are killed to make the meat more tender by beating, burning or

hanging.

One South Korean civic group has used the Internet to run an aggressive campaign

against eating dogmeat, even calling for a boycott of the World Cup finals,

which South Korea and Japan will co-host from May 31 to June 30.

The Anti-Dogmeat Headquarters (www.admh.org) challenges dogmeat proponents'

claim that Korean culture is under attack, declaring that " eating dogs is a

barbaric Chinese custom " .

Isn't it strange that people willingly eat lovely little lambs and cows,

chicken, turkeys, ducks, pigs and fish, and then pretend morality at eating

dogs!

Hi Persian et al

Welcome!

I agree with everybody here! Yep - there's no difference to me between a dog

and a cow, pig or lamb. But I still don't see any harm in making a noise

about any of them when the opportunity arises. If our culture happens to see

dogs as somehow different, let's make the most of it and help a few dogs!

:-)

This seems to fit in with what I have read from conspiracy theorists about

the hormones produced by fear etc. being used by 'satanists' (spiritually, I

believe) when they kill their victim. I'm not sure if this is a correct

assumption from what I read, but Peter can fill in detail if necessary.

I do think the way they treat the animals is terrible. I can never

understand the things people do!

Good luck with the campaign.

head, and tossed em in boiling water

one cat was still alive afterwards, gasping for breathe, as he had been boiled

alive..as they pulled his fur off

*shudder*

no worse then stickin a hook thru a chicken's feet, and slicing its neck as it

rumbles along a conveyor belt upside down tho

well,it's not true as far as Satanists go. True Satanists do NOT

practice animal or human sacrifice.

From the Church of Satan- " We hold that all individuals have the right

I could go on,as I'm quite into the Left Hand Path(both

Thanks for the info. I was aware that I was unaware (?) of what Satanists

believe, which is why I put it in ''s, and I know what us Pagans get accused

of by people who don't know our beliefs.

It rained here yesterday, and froze solid overnight - couldn't get in the

car door this morning. Elderflower and Lemon tea, and Echinacea is very

good for helping you get over colds.

I think it depends on exactly which definition of Satanism you use. In terms

of LeVay's " Church of Satan " , you've already said what the philosophies

are....but then there are also people who are often referred to as Satanists

who do practice all sorts of horrible stuff. I think it's probably one of

those things where the term has been used in it's medieval Christian

meaning - which, to be fair, does pre-date LeVay's use of it by a few

centuries :-)

Yes...but I'm talking about True LaVeyan Satanism,not " devil

worship " ,which is the belief and worshipping of " Satan " as an actual

being, which is just as asinine as worshippin Go---ok,nevermind,I

almost forgot what list this was,I know people take things very not

lightly here,and I'm likely to set off a flame war,and frankly,I

don't have the inbox capacity, the tolerance for stupidity, nor the

time to waste on such petty arguments when we should all concentrate

on discussing all things vegan...and also if Jo and Peter wanna talk

metal haha...but anyway,LaVeyans just view " Satan " as a symbol,and

not an actual being.

No. I am sceptical about it, but it would be interesting to read (just so I

can pick fault with the research :-) ) Probably it's like animal

experiements - if you eat two tons of echinacea a day for five years .....

oh.... go on Chris - I want to know about Satanism. I am aware of Gods as

archetypes in Paganism, and presume this is what you mean about Satanism.

The bit I am unsure of is - is what aspect of Satan is the dominant

characteristic that forms the archetype for Satanists.

As far as my understanding goes - the Christian God is split in two - good

and evil, and the evil bit is supposed to be Satan (whereas in Paganism Gods

are complete, and a mixture of good and evil). I am also aware that Satan

was around before the New Testament, so is it this character that is called

upon - and what are his characteristics.

Actually, the list is for discussing anything, but not being offensive to

the vegan ideal, so we should be okay.

not really

that more of a duelaist credo, which was considered herisy for a long time

satan was lucifer, who rebelled against god, and was cast out, or will be
