hi all

i'm new to the group and thought I'd say hello. I was vegan a few

years ago , then tried macrobiotics for a while. Both times I had

trouble with my energy levels after about six months. I was told by a

number of people that it's because i'm blood type O. What are your

thoughts on this? Is this really a valid thing? Are there any folks

out there who have successfully gone vegan for a number of years who

are type O ?

Right now I'm eating a lot of vegan foods, but also free range eggs

twice a week and occasionally tuna as well...I would love to go vegan

all the way!

thanks for your help or any advice you may have

Hiya Heather,

Never heard anything about bloodtype making any difference, only blood count, or iron levels? But then what do I know, I`m sure Dr. Fragg is in the house?

how did i become Dr Fraggle? sheesh

:)

the blood type diet is based on faulty *science* to say the least...

its pushed by a character named D'Adamo....(i think thats how you spell it

anyways)

and, just like most fad diets, its nuthin more then a starvation diet when you

actually look at it and crunch the numbers

he also proposes that early humans were all type O, then the others came about

later

well..since blood types predate humanity, you can toss that argument out the

window

and, his theory is that early humans all ate meat...corprolite and teeth wear

studies of cro-magnon prove otherwise....

and..the theory proposed is that type O ppl produce a lot of stomach acid, so

they are suppose to eat dead flesh

a. type O's are just like anyone else..they produce varying amounts of stomach

acid per person...everyone is different

b. stomach acid doesn't digest protein...pepsin in the intestines does..if you

had too much acid, it would actually inhibit protein digestion

War doesn't determine who's right. War determines who's left.

Hi Heather

Welcome to the group.

I don't think the blood-types diet makes any sense - in fact, I believe

Peter has, somewhere, the Vegan Society's response to it. If it's any

consolation between my husband and myself one of us is A and one is O (can't

remember which is which) - and we don't suffer unduly from fatigue. The

times we feel tired are when we have later nights than usual - the usual

being about midnight. So we don't do too badly.

I think this book was written to make money. It was a theory that nobody

else held, and people like new diets. Logically though, there is nothing to

back it up.

Hi Natural~

Tis a pleasure to meet you and WELCOME to the group! And thank you

for your recent decision on being Vegan.

Just to specify as we do have members from all over the world and I

myself have just found out that the word " Wiccan " means something

completely different to people in the UK as it does to us in the

states, whereabouts do you reside?

Please feel free to join in any chat or start one of your own. And

if we can help in any way, just holler!

Warm welcome, Kadee. Congratulations on 10 years

as a vegetarian and also raising vegetarian children.

That is awesome.

My dh isn't a vegetarian yet either, but he is very

supportive of my choice and loves the foods I cook.

I hope you will find all the help and support you need

here. Feel free to ask us any questions and also share

some of your favorite recipes.

BTW, I am PT in Oregon and a lacto-ovo veg.

Hi there; welcome to the garden of veggie delights! This is so strange; we have

a similar problems. One of our kids is temporarily living with us and he is a

carnivore and my husband and I are lacto-ovo vegetarian. So I am making two

different meals three times a day.

When I eat at a friend's house or family and they have meat that is separate

from the veggies, I take a little of the meat and push it around the plate after

eating my veggies. Often I will take some on my fork and sort of keep talking

(I talk a lot when I get the chance) while waving it around, getting it close to

my mouth then not eating. Of course if you have a dog or cat handy under the

table that works too. But when all else fails, can you cook? If you can, then

you can give the house cook (trying to be politically correct and non sexist) a

break from cooking and make a veggie meal for everyone.

It helps if you don't actually point out to the other eaters in the house that

they are eating a non meat meal. What they don't know, and all that. Actually

right now my carnivore son is eating a tamale casserole made totally with Boca

crumbles (not meat), beans and stuff and liking it. I will admit that I hid the

empty Boca box deep in the garbage and am hoping none of the animals get it out

to " clean " it for me.

As for shoes, Kalso (Earth) shoe makes a great vegan friendly shoe, along with

the other kind. They are a tad pricey but I cannot endorse them highly enough.

They are wonderful even if it takes a little getting used to the negative heel.

by/title//RID/119656?gclid=CNn4woGflYgCFUUKOAodXQ2iFw)

You can order a catalog at the above link. The catalog itself is gorgeous and

they also offer natural hemp fiber clothing. Wal Mart and other places are

carrying those plastic clog sort of shoes but so far I've only seen women's

shoes in plastic at Wally World.

If you aren't already, start reading the labels of what you eat. To me it

appears that food manufacturers are sneaking animal products, refined sugars and

chemicals in everything. Then when they leave it out they brag about the fact

and charge extra. Go figure.

Sorry to go on and on. Hope this helps, Jeanne in Georgia

Wow, Jeanne! Are you saying you have to POSE as a meat eater?!?!? That

shocks me. I have certainly been to dinner at other people's houses

where there is little for me to eat, so I eat a salad or whatever, but I

can't imagine having to PRETEND that I eat meat!!! You are a sport.

And if your son is of adult age, sounds like he needs to make his own

meals! :-)

I have a carnivore daughter - age 14 (in a week or so). I am making

individual veggie pot pies this week and I plan to throw in some

pre-cooked chicken breast (purchased frozen at Trader Jos) into hers,

while the pies for myself and my other daughter will be meat free.

That's how I've been handling this situation and it's been working

pretty well.

Hi Samual,

I'm also new to the list, and new to eating raw. I'm only 36 and

discovered three weeks ago that my blood-pressure was too high. It was

a real wake-up call for me, and I've been eating raw since. To my

delight my bp is pretty much normal already, I've lost 11lbs, and I'm

feeling pretty good. My children are enjoying it too - it gives me such

a kick to see my three-year-old chomp away on fruit and sprouts!

We moved to Norway a couple of months ago. I wasn't sure what kind of

variety of fruit and veg there would be in Norway in the middle of

winter, but it's amazing! Only problem is that organic costs nearly

twice as much as regular produce which we just can't do right now.

Anyway, good luck! We can swap stories of our progress.

Hi Samuel,

Welcome and congratulations on discovering raw! Just keep adding more and

more raw to your current diet as you feel comfortable with it. It might be a

good idea to convert whatever cooked food you are having to completely vegan

now and eliminate processed foods. Also, maybe having a large salad with

dinner would be good. Also, keep in mind that YOU have control over what you

eat. You can choose to have a salad or fruit or a fruit smoothie for dinner

any time you'd like. :-)

Just keep on adding more raw and you will do great!

Wishing you all the best!

Hi Samual,

If you stay with this healthy style of eating, there will be a lot of things you

will learn that disgust you. I was just reading the other day about the

phosphoric acid in soda pop and because of it's terrible acid effect on the

body, it leeches calcium right out of our bones to neutral our systems to an

alkaline balance. The amount of soda pop sold in the United States is

overwhelming and astranomical. My husband is a Pepsi drinker along with a lot

of other calcium robbing habits. A lot of people don't think men can get

osteoporosis, but he is 3 inches shorter than when I married him and his teeth

are continually breaking off. There are so many things out there that our

society think are SAFE, but if they only knew the truth!

Sharon

In our hearts we plan our day, but it is God who determines our steps. Proverbs

16:9

I don't know how to address this. Just wondering how anyone that is new

is doing with starting raw. I'm three days into raw for breakfast and

lunch. dinned is still contolled by the wife. I'm trying hard and

have got three days going, but I've feeling a lot of guilt on dinner.

I have to differ and say that tofu still has a totally disastrous

effect on my digestive system (not wanting to burden you with TMI but

if it was just wind and bloating I'd be happy). I've been vegetarian

for over 40 years so I can't imagine that reaction will change now,

LOL. I really like tofu but I only eat it very occasionally. I guess

that our bodies are all made differently and react to different

things. I don't have such a problem with lentils and beans, rice is

fine but rice and soya milks make me really ill.

Christie,

oh darn!!!!!!!!

I was looking forward to those nasty side-effects to go away. I liked it when

I thought it was going to pass...(pardon the pun)

I do love tofu and all the variations of it.

Beans do this to me also, lentils do not for some reason.
