hi there this jeff. see my profile on

brandnewbeean <xearthx0xangelx wrote:1. What is your name or what may

we call you?

You can call me brandnewbeean (or BNB, for short).

2. How long have you been a vegetarian, or how long have you been

interested in vegetarian cookery?

I finally completed my transition to vegetarianism on Aug 15th, but

I've been thinking about it for at least two years, maybe longer. I

never really got into eating pork; I didn't eat much beef; but

chicken, turkey and fish were hard to drop. When I started reading

this book called " The Vegetarian Female " a few weeks ago, that did it

for me. That book is a real eye-opener.

3. What country are you in now?

USA

4. What city, town or region?

Atlanta, GA

5. What age are you (just roughly, very roughly!)?

I'm in in my 30s.

6. Why did you join this group (apart from receiving an invitation!

*lol*)?

I'd like to meet some vegetarians to hang out with, if possible. I

didn't realize that people with my ideals (about the environment,

animals, being compassionate, etc) are very common among vegetarians.

I don't drive my car very much, I ride the train to work (small step

against pollution) and I have never liked the circus. Just recently

I actually started to READ about vegetarianism. Prior to that, I used

to think vegetarians were simply, very disciplined, strict eaters

(possibly for spiritual reasons). I didn't realize that it tied into

protecting the environment and caring about how animals are treated,

and lots of other wonderful benefits.

7. What kinds of (vegetarian) foods or cuisines interest you most?

I don't know. I'm still learning about all of the choices. There's a

lot! I'll have to let you know as I get used to trying different

ones. For now, I'll say ALL of them.

8. Is there anything you'd like to tell the group?

I'm a single mom and I'm still trying to get my daughter into

transitioning. She likes some of the soy burgers, vegetarian chili,

veggie corn dogs, and veggie 'nuggets', but she's slow to understand

the numerous benefits of being a vegetarian. ( " Do we HAVE to drink

soymilk? " , " You mean I can't eat THAT anymore, either? " ) I'd

appreciate any advice on how to help her understand. Are there any

books you could recommend (for a pre-teen) that could help her learn

more about being a vegetarian? Thanks! ~BNB
