Hi All, & Robert

Though I have been studying TCM herbalism for many years, I use

acupuncture mainly.

I rarely use herbs because I do not know enough yet about their

interactions to prescribe them for human or animal patients.

However, I take herbs, especially ginseng, for personal use and have

sourced a supplier of genune Yunnan Baiyao for a horse client.

[i am not happy to prescribe YNBY because the formula is secret and I

could be struck off the Irish veterinary register for prescribing [or

even stocking] an unregistered formula.

However, my client wanted it for his horses, so I let him buy it

direct from the company at his own risk. He is very happy with it and

reckons that it gives his bleeders [horses predisposed to EIPH -

exercise-induced pulmonary haemorrhage] a better chance to race

without a serious bleed.

Apart from ginseng root slices (see below), I do not use loose herbs

because I doubt their consistency from batch to batch.

When I need to buy herbs, I prefer concentrated extracts made up in

large, homogenised batches. For those, I have relied on the company

recommended by Dr Lin Jen-hsou, a personal friend and retired

colleague in Taipei. He uses extracts manufactured by Sun Ten

Company, Taiwan. http://www.suntenglobal.com/about/milestones.php

For personal supplies of Korean Red Ginseng root slices, I ask a

colleague in Korea to post them to me. His brother-in-law has a

Ginseng farm and my friend can get [limited] supplies of top-grade

root from him.

Best regards,
