That is exactly what this study was about. The CDC tested the blood of a

number of people of varying ages and determined what was in it. They found

many such chemicals as DDT, which has not been used for many years in this

country. Check out the link at

>>>Its a great link, however, there are some studies showing the same level of

contamination in sick and healthy people.Even DDT toxicity is not totally

understood and many in Africa are begging for the US to produce and supply it.

DDT is the most effective stuff we have to irradiate malaria (and the Africans

are more wearied about known death from malaria). There are some new studies

that question many of the older information on DDT toxicity and many so-called

healthy people have fairly high levels in both blood and fat tissues.

The incidence of all cancers among infants less than one year old, both sexes,

age adjusted, has risen 36% when comparing the years 1976-1984 to 1986-1994. The

incidence for germ cell cancers in that same group has increased 124%. The

increases were lower for older children, but still, they were increases.

You might then be interested in a CDC toxin study in which Bill Moyers took

part in. I am not sure if it is on their site or not. I think on a great

many of the chemicals listed in the MSDS (material safety data safety) we

know they are hazardous and to what degree. You can never be 100% absolute

as amount of exposure and time play a large role in the damage. Also check

out this site http://www.mindfully.org/Pesticide/EDs-PWG-16jun01.htm for a

interesting connection of petro chemicals and endocrine disorders.

One can always question what was and if this info is legit. As a bio

undergrad I had a chance to see and learn about many such environmental

toxins. A scientist would have to be in the back pocket of petro producer

to think otherwise on this one. None of these toxins is healthy it is only

a matter of how much to make you ill or in what combination with another to.

By the way, DDT is still used in other parts of the world and we consume

through foreign produce imported and consumed by us. So much for progress.

Perhaps it is too deadly and other foreign companies would rather not.

Lets see toxic load in system, blood type, genetic makeup, qi, etc. You

pick but remember that life is not an exact science. I still think we need

to become better educated as to their danger and let our patients know.

Limiting them can be smart medicine and a better life. Reminds me, I need

to have my amalgams replaced.

Karla,

My situation in western Montana on an Indian Reservation is probably as much of

a challenge as your situation. I advise my own students, when starting a

practice, unless they are a masochist, to *not* choose an area like where I now

live.

I've had to focus much more on education in small groups and classes. Diets are

atrocious, lots of addictive patterns. But the potential is huge. The clean air

and outdoor beauty is very therapeutic. We too have a " live free or die " ethos

that permeates attitudes here, and that does tend to help people focus on their

own responsibilities.

By the way, are you familiar with the " Free State Project " ? - a group of

libertarians who decided to move en masse to New Hampshire because they decided

it was the best candidate for their experiement of promoting libertarian

policies in government. Montana came in #2 in the vote several years ago. I'll

bet there are a lot of Health Freedom activists in your area who would be

receptive to TCM.

>Perhaps the " live free or die " attitude in NH, which means there are no laws

requiring seat belt use in cars or helmets for motorcyclists, also makes people

more receptive to personal responsibilty and living with the consequences of the

choices one makes, eh? ;)

>

>People respond to one's attitude and intent (helping them not lecturing them).

My own mission when starting this work was literally " I will help people be

more comfortable with transformation. " --and that's still my main goal.

Presenting things as good old-fashioned common sense, that works around here! I

use lots of nature metaphors, car and sports metaphors about how to live and

take care of oneself. Being an optimist, I believe people want to transform

and will change, it's just scary without guidance, support, and encouragement.

Provide that safe atmosphere with treatment and it just happens naturally. I

don't push it, it just unfolds.

would be good predictors. Some us nuts have to expand this profession into new

territories though!

" Everyone must be NCCAOM certified, even chiropractors (couldn't do anything

about MDs). "

Karla,

Not quite right, chiropractors can get the minimalist training, but can't

call or advertise what they do acupuncture. My experience with this is that

they still say they do acupuncture, but the law still keeps them from

advertising that they do.
