do you mean zi cao gen. Radix lithospermum is actually zi cao gen,

not zi cao. Radix means root as does gen. Andy Ellis discovered that

many suppliers were not supplying the root of this herb, but the tops

instead. springwind has the root.

Dear

Thank you for finally helping me understand this mystery. I had noticed Zi

Cao was arriving looking a lot like Bai Tou Weng, fuzzy greyish green tops.

How could this herb do the things that the purple root is supposed to do? In

Mayway's catalog, if you want the purple root, you have to order Zi Cao

(Hong Tiao) I don't know what that means ( " red something " ?) -- but they

still call Zi Cao " Lithospermum Root " , which they should really call

" Lithospermum plant " , shouldn't they? Does anyone use the plant tops for the

same purposes as the root?

Zi cao gen is a beautiful irridescent root. We carry it, too. When people fax us an order for Zi Cao, I have to call them to find out if they want Zi Cao Rong or Zi Cao Gen. The former is the aerial portion, the latter is the root.

Hi,

Zi Cai is forbidden in Germany. It is supposed to be hepatotoxic. Has anyone heard of this before?
