The two herbs are similar however and there is no telling if the herb that was used in Europe was indeed Lithospermum or not. There is another herb that is used as Zi Cao (called Bei Zi Cao) I am not sure what the Latin name of that is. In other words I do not have enough information about this issue to comment.
