Guest guest
Hi everyone! Sorry if some of you get this twice. All my kids caught a minor cold/cough last week into this week. I treated them all with echinacea, a eucalyptus & thyme chest rub, and have been giving them cinnamon and honey. On top of this they all are drinking lots of fluids. 3 of the kids responded well to the treatment above and still have a minor cough once and a while during the day. But 1 of them my 5yr old daughter is responding at all! In fact her cough is getting worse! Last night on top of all the other stuff I'm doing I put her in the shower and got it really steamy then added some eucalyptus and geranium to the water and had her inhale that. She didn't want to get out as it felt good in there. But she was still coughing something fierce. Her cough is very deep in the chest, loose but mostly unproductive, and constant. She doesn't seem to be able to catch a break at all. Last night she vomitted a couple times (most of it was mucus) because her coughing was so bad! She's complaining of a headache and her chest along with muscles are sore from coughing so bad. It took her 2 hours last night to finally fall asleep after I put them to bed. She just got so exhausted and crashed but still coughed in her sleep. I've had bronchitis before and her cough sounds exactly like that. She also has a low grade fever that came on yesterday. This is day 4 of the cough and treatment for her. Any ideas? I do not want to call the doctor and have her end up on antibiotics! Thanks, Stephanie

These all work for my daughter. Juana Serrano True Essence Bath & Body Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift... ....that is why it's called the " present. Guest guest
pour honey over a chopped onion in a bowl, let it stand at room temperature for several hours, and then take a couple of spoonfuls as needed(the honey part only, not the onion). In the group's links section http://finance./links There is a folder called " Alternative Healing Links " and in there are folders that contain links to finding various kinds of holistic docs all around the US (and world in some cases). There is a line of products out there called " Herbs For Kids " http://www.herbsforkids.com They do have a cough treatment in their line. Also, the founder Sunny Mavor is quite knowledgeable and helpful Below is an article that might give you some ideas too ... I will say one note about the article below and zinc - take the zinc lozenges after having some food in the belly. Taking them on an empty stomach can make a person feel nauseous I hope the little one feels better. *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://www.ucanbewell.com/coughs.html Natural Remedies for Coughs Begin taking zinc lozenges the FIRST sign of a cough. Get zinc lozenges that are at least 14 milligrams. For children, you can get zinc suckers or just have them take half a lozenge. Dr ZincR works best, is much cheaper, and tastes great. You can find Dr. ZincR at these stores: Hive, Leader Drug, Marquee, Sun Mart, Health Mart, and Value Rite. This website (MyLeader.com) can help you locate a store near you. Make sure to also drink plenty of water. Water can do a lot of good for a cough. Garlic is an expectorant and has a powerful effect on the lungs. It is also an antiviral and an expectorant. If you don't like spicy foods, put it in anything you think you will be able to eat. Make sure to let the crushed or chopped garlic sit for at least 10 minutes before taking. If you or your children will not eat raw garlic, a great way to get it into the blood stream is through the feet. Garlic absorbs right through the bottom of the feet, and into the blood stream within a few minutes. Make sure always to check to see if any irritation or burning occurs if garlic is left on the skin longer than 20 minutes. Garlic can blister and burn the skin, even if you do not feel anything burning, especially if applied without oil. *In addition, it has been proven in studies that garlic drops in the nose kills the cold virus. There is however an easier way to do this. We grind up about half a BULB of garlic, skins and all, and pour a cup or two of boiling water over this and with a towel over the head, we breath this garlic steam in through the nose and mouth alternately. This is also good for clearing up congestion and coughs. The following remedy will soothe a cough almost immediately. Put 1 can of chicken broth in a saucepan. Add 1-2 cloves finely chopped garlic. (Be sure to let the chopped garlic sit for 10 minutes before adding.) Add a few pinches of thyme. (Thyme is an expectorant and a germ killer.) Heat to almost boiling Breath the steam. Drink as soon as it has cooled off enough to stand. Also you can pour 1 pint boiling water over half a BULB of garlic crushed. Place a towel over your head and the bowl and breath in the steam. This will work wonders for clearing up chest congestion and will speed recovery by killing germs. More garlic cough remedies - Take zinc lozenges at the first sign. Take garlic syrup - In a food processor, blend about 15 BULBS garlic. In a half gallon jar, layer a thin amount of garlic on the bottom then a thin amount of sugar just enough to cover the garlic. Alternate layers like this until the garlic is all used. Close the jar and let sit in a warm place for two days. Then you can squeeze this through a cheesecloth to obtain the syrup. No added liquid is needed. Store in a cool dry place. Garlic is also a blood thinner, so be sure to ask your doctor before taking it if you are on any blood thinning medications or if you are about to have surgery of any kind. The following are herbs that can also help a cough. Lungwort - Taken as a tincture. Take dose recommended on label, 2-3 times daily for 3 days. good for children who have both a cough and diarrhea. Marshmallow Root - Taken as an extract. 1 tsp in 1/4 cup water 3 times daily. Children should use 1/4 tsp. Relieves a dry hacking cough. Very helpful for children. Mullein - Taken as a tea. 1/2 cup 2-3 times daily. Good for children at the first sign of a cough, before any phlegm develops. Peppermint - Taken as lozenge. 1 per hour. Suppresses coughs. Do not take if you have a gallbladder disorder. Reishi - Taken in tablet form. 3000 mg 3 times daily. Stops a cough if you have a cold and asthma both at the same time. Wild cherry bark - Taken as syrup. Expectorant. Do not use if you are pregnant. do not give to children under 4 years of age. Sundew - Taken as lozenge. Take 1 lozenge per hour. Prevents coughing without causing sedation. Do not take during acute cough. Always inform your doctor of any herbs or other medicines you are taking to avoid any drug interactions. Guest guest
Hi, sounds like you have done everything you could, I'd take her to the doctor to get checked out... Carol Good luck and I hope she feels better soon, poor little munchkin.. > > >
Guest guest
I agree with Carol, it sounds like it might be time to go to the doctors. My husband had a similar cough for weeks and weeks, wouldn't do anything about it, finally got him to a dr and yep, bronchitis..........two lots of antibiotics (and we rarely use them at all in our family), a nasal spray, cough suppressant..........really wish he had done something about it earlier. Good luck with the little one.
