Guest guest
I've just read that " eos are not recommended for use with people with cancer " . Now I realize that one cannot believe most of what one reads on the Internet regarding eos...Does anyone have any experience with this? Essential oils can and are being used on people with cancer. Aromatherapy first gained notice within the medical community in hospice, where many cancer patients receive palliative care. Laraine Kyle, RN, and Valerie Cooksley, RN, have written and lectured extensively on this subject. There is an article in the archives section of my website on aromatherapy and cancer, www.aromaceuticals.com/pages/9/index.htm. In terms of cancer care, essential oils can be used to help pain management, maintain skin integrity during radiation treatments, help manage the side effects of chemotherapy, speed healing of incisions, and improve quality of life for terminal patients, among other uses. Not all EO's are appropriate for all cancer patients. For instance, EO's known to have " hormone-like " properties, which were mentioned in a previous post. At this time, we don't fully understand enough about how these oils work to know whether they are safe or not, so they are best avoided for persons with estrogen-positive cancers. Some oils are inappropriate for those in a severely weakened state or those with highly compromised immune systems. Published research exists on aromatherapy and cancer, to cite a couple examples: A group of researchers at the University of Chicago discovered that (+)d-limonene and certain cyclic terpenes in citrus EO's and select conifer EO's induced apoptosis (preprogrammed cell death) in cancer cells. Pierre Franchomme claims to have simultaneously gotten nearly identical results with (+)d-limonene in his own independent research. Neither of these trials involved human subjects, and additional research is underway.
