Guest guest
Hi, I`m wondering if anyone could tell me how long Avocado and Apricot Kernel oils will keep? I`ve put them in the fridge thinking that would be the best way, but am wondering the length of their goodness. I`m using them for two different facial moisturizer bases with essential oils but have way too much. A little goes a long way! Linda
Guest guest
> Hi, Hi Linda, > I`m wondering if anyone could tell me how long Avocado and Apricot Kernel oils will keep? Unrefined Avocado oil has a VERY short life .. refined has a longer shelf life, but not too long. In the fridge it should be ok for about 6 months to a year. Same with Apricot kernel oil. IMHO it is very easy to tell when a fixed oil has gone bad. It'll have a " stale " smell to it .. it just won't smell right .. and neither of those oils should have much of a smell to begin with. > I`ve put them in the fridge thinking that would be the best way, but am wondering the length of their goodness. They can also be used as hot oil hair treatments or after bath body oils ... just a couple ideas to use them up ... You can also add an anti-oxidant to them , such as Vitamin E oil to help prolong shelf life... > Linda *Smile* Chris (list mom) h <http://www.alittleolfactory.com> ttp://www.alittleolfactory.com
Guest guest
Hi Chris et al, I have the same question but once the oil is " too " old, can I still use it in soap? I have a macadamia oil, an apricot kernal oil and a sweet almond oil that are about a year old, AND they are all infused (one with calendula, one with rose petal and I've forgotten the other one) - can I still use those for soap? THANKS!! Guest guest
Hi Chris, Is it possible to extend the life of these oils in the freezer? Any tips on how to keep them that way? Guest guest
I have the same question but once the oil is " too " old, can I still use it in soap? -------------------------------- Hi Anne, Sadly, rancid oil is no good for anything. If you use it in soap it may encourage DOS to develop, may affect the perfume of the eo's and after a while the soap itself may smell really rancid...especially if you superfatted. Guest guest
Thanks Nerys! Too bad about that, but I'll know better next time.
