Guest guest
I've been following this thread with interest, but have seen no one post on bodywork to treat this disorder. In the case of a physical defect, the problem occurs because a part of the stomach has protruded above the diaphragm, which is continually squeezing on that piece of stomach. The resulting refluxing stomach acid blisters the esophagus. If this is the root cause of acid reflux, then one or two visits to a practitioner who is skilled in visceral manipulation (naturopath, chiropractor, physical therapist or massage therapist) will usually cure the problem, often permanently. Just my observation, from working with a lot of folks who have GI tract disorders: if no physical defect is present, the cause is almost always stress related. Yes, even with ulcers and H. pylori. Even enlightened gastroenterologists are starting to believe this, evidenced by my father's recent bout with reflux. He didn't like his doctor telling him that he had trouble handling stress, but once the stock market quit gyrating, so did his stomach! Guest guest
Interesting about visceral manipulation. I've been dealt with stomach issues all my adult life. When I was in my 20-30 I was given a pat on the head and told I had a " nervous stomach " and to go about my business. When I was in my early to mid 40's the problems got so bad I was drinking and eating anti acids by the case. Again the pat on the head and told it was stress/emptynest etc. Until blood work, totally unrelated to the stomach issue, came back really screwed up. A few more test showed I had 4 bleeding ulcers and large erosion on my esophagus. I've tried lots and lots of things and only that dear purple pill has helped. I've gone to a chio for years and not once has he said anything about helping with this and I didn't know to ask. Guess its time to find one that does -- thanks for a great piece of information. Kat, I believe I did mention that Reflexology has helped with this. The friend with whom I do an exchange e.o.w. was helped somewhat by Reflexology, and is now 90% heartburn free with Reflexology and a herbal/enzyme-enriched product. I always like to think AND, rather than either-or. Ien in the Kootenays ********************************* " The world is as you dream it. But your dream has become a nightmare.
