You are absolutely correct about this. Technically, it's illegal to sell red yeast rice extract in the U.S., although it has a proven track record of effectively and naturally lowering cholesterol. I have no idea why it's still available here, since stocking it is an open invitation for the FDA to come down on your head. Dr Andrew Weil (a big supporter of red yeast rice) suggests that you order the extract via a Canadian health food store or pharmacy, where it is not banned.
