Alon,

Are there studies done on conventional cholesterol-lowering meds

vs. red yeast rice (naturally occuring statins) or Shan zha ?

How about conventional anti-depressants

vs. xiao yao san or gan mai da zao tang?

Thanks.

K

There's many studies on those subjects in Chinese journals, but

unfortunately they're all of (very) poor methodological quality.

Koko

red yeast is a statin and depending on quality of consecration lowers

cholesterol. It seems to do it better than similar isolated statin. I have tried

san za and a like on several dozen patients and cannot say its a relable

cholesterol loweing againt like red yeast rice.
