Hi Mark,

Our pediatrician Dr. Whitte at the Coastal Health Alliance in Bolinas offered

us to special order separate vaccines back in the day, in order to try and

munimize side effects. If you call the Point Reyes Clinic at (415)663-8666 they

can give you his number in Bolinas (he heads both clinics but now only works in

Bolinas, the number of which i do not have on hand).

Best wishes,

Genevieve.

We've been thinking of vaccinating for Tetanus, but I have not been

able the toddler version of the vaccine without it being bundled with

diptheria and polio. Does anyone know if it is possible to get a

toddler load of the vaccine on its own?

Thanks,

Dear colleagues,

As Doctor Mendelsohn, OMB, so articulately put it, tetanus doesn't come from

rusty nails or dog bites--it comes from puncture wounds that have been allowed

to fester and not bleed, thus trapping the  Gram-positive obligate anaerobic

bacterium Clostridium tetani.

The key is that it is an anerobic bacteria.  The solution and prevention is the

same:  when one has a puncture wound,  BLEED IT, as quickly as possible drain

out  the contaminated superficial blood, then apply Yunnan BaiYao,  Di Yu either

in juice (if you can get it) or powder form, or a local antiseptic if you don't

have herbs available, or don't know how to use them topically.  Apply sterile

gauze and bandage and change daily until a scab forms. You follow the above and

you will never need to consider taking a tetanus shot.

not to mention there is a western rx anti-toxin that you could take if such a

puncture wound exists that prevents the proliferation of the tetnus.

Our youngest son, who has only received a tetanus vaccination (why

add the trauma of a vaccination on top of the trauma of a sharp poke

in the foot?), sat very calmly and watched with interest while he got

his shot. Our pediatrician (who, bless her heart, does not pressure

us about vaccinations) laughed heartily and said that the only kids

in her practice who don't complain about getting shots are the kids

whose parents are acupuncturists. Mind you, this is my youngest who

thinks that Seirin reds are painful! But that's because I am the one

poking him!

Thanks for a lively discussion about such an important topic.

Indeed I found in records taken of early medicines that calendula was often used

pressed into packings of the wound to avoid tetanus. Also castor oil packings

apparently so effective as to even drag rust out of the injury site and also

witch hazel. Indeed the early treatment of rabies bites took a hot poker to the

site as the virus is temperature sensitive to high heat, that bein besides the

ifformation that early rabies was so inneffective as not to even infect man

easily unless a severe bite or bite to the head (cranium) shortening the

distance to the cns.Would I get a vaccine today, NO, viral vaccines are barely

effective, bacterin vaccines, vaccines against parasites not but anti toxin that

would be a different consideration if a very deep rusty nail puncture.
