Guest guest
a colleague has approached me about sharing the cost of a $50 e-book download & printing/copying on an out of print book. we figured by sharing the cost we'd pay approx $25 ea. i am concerned about the ethics of file sharing intellectual property. the book is out of print, but the author offers the download for $50. (this is TCM material). what do you think about downloading one copy, and then printing copies for 3 practitioners? ethical or no can do? kath -- Kath Bartlett, LAc, MS, BA UCLA Oriental Medicine Experienced, Dedicated, Effective Kath's Blog about , Healthy Living & Spirituality: http://acukath.blogspot.com/ Flying Dragon Liniment: Effective pain relief for muscles & joints Formulated by Kath Bartlett, Traditional Chinese Herbalist Available at Asheville Center for : www.FlyingDragonLiniment.com and from the following supply companies: Kamwo Herbal Pharmacy: NY - Chinatown https://www.kamwo.com/shop/product.php?productid=17442 & cat=0 & page=1 Golden Needle Acupuncture, Herbal & Medical Supply - Candler, NC http://www.goldenneedleonline.com/index.php?page=categories & category=14 & vendor= & \ product=5554 & pg= Asheville Center For 70 Woodfin Place, Suite West Wing Two Asheville, NC 28801 828.258.2777 kbartlett www.AcupunctureAsheville.com
Guest guest
If the work is under copyright, copying a whole book this way would be an infringement of copyright, and unethical. (not an expert, but it seems clear to me, unless I am missing something...) RoseAnne L.Ac. Guest guest
It's simply wrong to deprive and artist of income for the work they've generated. If it has value to you, then you should pay asking price for it. It's straight forward ans simple.

Guest guest
Hi Kath, Sure, you can forward my post to your colleagues. But could I encourage you also to not be afraid to just stand on your own beliefs? Just tell them YOU feel it is unethical. That's good enough - no further 'evidence' is necessary! I appreciate your many contributions to the group. with support, RoseAnne On Feb 7, 2009, at 5:54 PM, wrote: > thanks roseanne. this is what i was thinking. > > may i have your permission to forward your response to the colleagues > involved (off-list)? > > kath > > On Sat, Feb 7, 2009 at 3:08 PM, RoseAnne Spradlin <ra6151 > wrote: > >> If the work is under copyright, copying a whole book this way would >> be an infringement of copyright, and unethical.
