Guest guest
Jane, your message "Sorry its been cancelled" was time stamped Thursday, July 16, 2009 12:05 AM My message "SE Australia marine warning still in effect http://www.bom.gov.au/tsunami/" was time stamped Thursday, July 16, 2009 1:58 AM At that time, and until about 10am, there was a marine warning listed (low lying costal areas). Your cancellation advice was premature and erroneous. The site updates all the time, so currently (3 days later), there is no marine warning. My message only got posted on on the 19th. It would have been more meaningful and helpful had my message got through in a timely manner. There is little point waiting for 3 days and then showing that later status. Guest guest
Google sites and SBS both stated that the Tsunami warning was cancelled within minutes of the warning being posted here - otherwise i would not have put my comment up - perhaps you should let these two organizations know, as it was they were correct after all weren't they. I have no idea why it took so long for your message to get through - I was merely reassuring people with the message received from SBS (TV) & google. Perhaps the government site was incorrect? - Highland/CDL Sunday, July 19, 2009 7:08 PM Re: Re: Re: 7.8 Mag EQ--New Zealand Jane, your message "Sorry its been cancelled" was time stamped Thursday, July 16, 2009 12:05 AM My message "SE Australia marine warning still in effect http://www.bom.gov.au/tsunami/" was time stamped Thursday, July 16, 2009 1:58 AM At that time, and until about 10am, there was a marine warning listed (low lying costal areas). Guest guest
The Australian government site I listed (http://www.bom.gov.au/tsunami/) was correct about their continued warning, as the effects had not yet reached their shores. The NZ warning was cancelled earlier than the Australian warning, as they were closer to the epicentre, and therefore the "ripple" effect was known there first. When it comes to official government warnings to the population, it is best to let the officials speak for themselves (provide links to their official sites), after all, they were the only ones with access to the sensors that were collecting the actual live data. Luckily, no harm was caused this time.
