Guest guest
We raise quail for meat and eggs and I know from experience that you can’t let them out or you will never see them again. I even tried to sneak up on them in the dark to catch them. They don’t fly like normal birds they fly almost vertical up and then kinda flutter down. They must be kept in cages. We have experimented with putting them in cages that we move around on the grass and seems to work well so they can ‘graze’ a bit and get some sun. They must have shade also. Do they roam on ground like chickens also? Yes. They scratch a pick. Or are they considerd a bird? Yes to this as well. They fly very well but with lots of flapping. ML CJ Do they make much noise...No. No noise at all from the hens but the males do sound like a flexing cookie sheet. would love to have chickens...but all that crowing would give me away and the martha stewart wannabee nazis of the hood would have a fit!...lol...I know the kind of neighbors you're talking about and I think Quail would fool them. They'd never know you were raising livestock and getting fresh eggs. Nosy little bastards. Do you have them in a coop?No...or running free range? Would be best but they would be wild and considered Game Birds ....any predators? The usual cats, rats, coyote, coons, weasel, birds of prey, etc. or would caged be best - caged humanely to protect them... Everyone I know who raises Quail use rabbit hutches. Easy to collect eggs, feed and water.Ours are in an off the ground hutch. (The kind you get at the feed store for $18) ~B don

Guest guest
Speaking of which…I’m interested enough to give it a go (we already have chickens). Would anybody be willing to ship some fertile eggs for me to hatch? Please contact me offline to discuss further. Thanks.
