Guest guest
Hello, I am hoping someone might have a word of advice, or a BTDT. My dog was bitten by what the vet thinks was either a brown recluse spider, or a non venomous snake (I think the spider) on his thigh. He has a double puncture wound, and a 4-5" abscess. He had a 104 temp and was very uncomfortable. I waited about 24 hours of home remedies before I took him in. I had him on colloidal silver by mouth and topically, a poultice of plantain, sweated garlic and onion with honey, applied for a few hours, and Apis homeopathically. I finally took him in when it appeared worse. The vet drained the abscess, had him on IV antibiotics for 24 hours, and now he was sent home with a topical antibiotic, oral antibiotic and prednisone I HATE giving him all this junk, but want him to heal. He was a rescue animal, and had been severely abused, and when we got him had severe worms (tape and round) and both types of mange. He was on deaths door A LOT. He was finally healthy, but I know he has taken so many hits that his immune system is not 100%. I want to try to support and assist him in fighting this off. Does anyone have any ideas? He is still on the CS, and Apis. I am making yogurt tonight and will add that. What else can I do? I am a nursing mom and can also get him some milk Thank you! Guest guest
I have read that activated charcoal will clear this up. My daughter responded very well with activated charcoal on an unidentified (but not brown recluse as no symptoms of such) spider bite. Hers swelled and was painful and travelling. After three days of activated charcoal poultice it was all gone. I have a good book I rely on, written by a husband and wife doctor team (Thrash), and they have stated that they have used activated charcoal successfully on brown recluse spider bites. I would definitely give this a try. I hope your dog gets to feeling better soon. These bites are nothing to ignore as they can be very devastating. Good luck~ Lori"I feel ashamed that so many of us cannot imagine a better way to do things than locking children up all day in cells instead of letting them grow up knowing their families, mingling with the world, assuming real obligations, striving to be independent and self-reliant and free." - John Taylor Gatto herbal remedies From: attachedmamaDate: Wed, 30 Sep 2009 00:02:10 -0400{Herbal Remedies} Brown Recluse bite Hello, I am hoping someone might have a word of advice, or a BTDT. Guest guest
I fully support what Lori stated below on the activated charcoal treatment. The book by Dr. Thrash is excellent and everyone needs to have a copy. My wife had got bitten by a centipede on her foot. It stung a lot and started to swell. I made a activate charcoal poultice mixed with some ground up flax seed and just enough water to make a paste and I put it on the bite and by morning the swelling and pain was gone. Another thing that is good is the activated charcoal tablets. These will take care of food poisoning if you ever get it. On several occasions I have used the charcoal tablets on our dog. Every now and then our dog will get into something bad. You know it whenever our dog's stomach starts to make some funny sounds. Whenever that happens we just give our dog one charcoal tablet and it takes care the problem in about 1/2 hour. We never leave home without our activated charcoal tablets and charcoal power.
