My husband is currently serving in Iraq again and is having a terrible bloody

nose. This is his second tour over there and it took over a year to clear this

up last time he came home. Does anyone have any suggestions to help. It seems to

be caused by the sand storms but their nose gets all stuffed up with dried blood

and very raw inside. What can He safely use to help. He has high blood pressure

and is concerned that the saline solutions is draining into his system and is

worried it is not good. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Susan

In the winter time, here in NM we have a tendency to get bloody noses from the dry weather. I put a pot of water on the stove and let the steam go into the air. this stops the nose bleeds. Maby there would be someway to get him to breath steam from something.

Do they have a fire that they can heat water on and breath the steam from the pot. Just don't get close enough to get burned.

Try a neti pot ( search it) and use warm saline water w/ a drop or 2 of sesame oil in it...works like a charm...if you search it - you will learn more that I can say here...or in a pich till you can get a pot take a wash cloth and dip it in warm water w/ salt ( drop or 2 of sesame oil - optional) in it and then hold it up to the nostril holes of the nose and snuff / inhale it in your nose - do this over a sink...provides good relief...this moisturizes / hydrates the mucous membranes of the nose...can be done 6 X / day if necessary...

you can also search 'nasal saline irrigation' and learn even more...--- On Tue, 3/10/09, JoanKuehn <geminipackrat wrote:

Get rid of the high blood pressure with garlic, cayenne and acupuncture.

Hold blood in vessels by tonifying spleen qi.

If it were me I'ld treat the high blood pressure going on cayenne, wheat

germ oil, and a mix of blackstrap molasses/apple cider vinegar. Take those

every day and I bet his blood pressure would get normalized then the nose

bleeding would stop. Might be a hassle to have bottles of supplementary

nutrition kicking around if he's deployed in the field but the cayenne is

portable enough. Plus it doubles to stop bleeding on wounds and helps get those

MREs flavored enough to eat.

In the files section there is a heart formula. Make that up and send it

to him.

As far as the mechanical aspects of sand and grit in the nose goes, do

netti. The saline draining into his system is small compared to what he's

probably getting in military chow. I'm no expert on the netti so I could be

wrong but I remember army chow. Netti is great for nose/sinus stuff and I can't

think of anything finer for clearing out those nasal passages. Far better than

dirty fingers in a war zone. You'ld have to mail him a netti pot and some sea

salt and his buddy's will harrass him but it works.

I hope something helps. Maybe someone else has some other ideas.

Sometimes a person has high blood pressure simply because they do not get enough calcium in their system.

You can have him snuff some dried peppermint up his nose like snuff (just a pinch!) to get rid of the nose bleed. Sounds like he may have to coat his inside of nose with petrolatum jelly in order to keep the nose lubricated and coated so the sand does not irritate it. We use petroleum jelly sparingly, but this would be a case where I think it would be most beneficial. You have to weigh the odds of what is happening versus what you think might be good for him in normal times. He is not in normal times.
