I saw on the news last night that the FDA has said artificial sweetners are not harmful. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. They don't get it. The word artificial alone should tell you that it's not good. My son and his wife give my grandkids diet soda all the time. I try to tell them it's bad for them, but it falls on deaf ears.

Oh don’t you think for one minute

that the government believes that artificial sweeteners aren’t harmful!

Of course they know that they are. However marketing is everything! You can

have a totally rotten products, but if it is marketed well, it will sell to

even the most discriminating buyer. There is corruption everywhere, especially

in our government. But even with all of the corruption, evil and distrust that

runs rampant, I could still think of worse places to live. I just trust my own

instincts and don’t believe everything that the “professionals”

say. Cindy

Tell me about it. And try to tell your diabetic MIL that Slpenda is pretty bad for your body even if it's approved for diabetics by the medical field. I myself tried Stevia and hated the taste LOL But I tried a gum with Xylitol and it was prtty darn good. But I have yet to find some in larger quantities.Karen O'Keefe <keelysgrma wrote: I saw on the news last night that the FDA has said artificial sweetners are

I prefer Stevia. It's natural and a lot safer. I don't trust a thing the goverment says. Their pockets are always being stuffed by large corporations that tell them exactly what they WANT the public to hear. Remember that.Danielle G.

I have found it helpful to be aware of the side effects from these artificial sweetners and then as our dear friends and family start complaining of wierd rashes or itchiness they are more receptive to consider reading up on the dangers. They also may discover more odd physical problems stated in the articles with a connection to splenda and make the correlation on their own. (Always a plus)

I have allegies to sugar. I would NEVER use Splenda. Splenda is made from sugar so if you have problems with sugar, you should stay away from it. It has the same properties of sugar.Stevia is an herb that is best grown in Brazil, but some have tried with a little success to grow it in the US. My health food store carries two brands of Stevia in liquid and power form. I buy the liquid and for my husband and I (we are talking lots of ice tea being digested here), one bottle lasts just about a month. The brand I use is the cheapest and it's the same as the more expensive product. It's about 100 times sweeter than sugar, so one or two drops per drink is fine for me. It is all according to your taste anyway. The brand is called Optimum Nutrition. The extract it from the herb alcohol-free. They are located in Coral Springs, FL. The phone is 630-236-0097. The website is

optimumnutr.comI can get 2 bottles for $10 which is the price for one bottle of the other brand. I can't even remember the name of the other brand. Only bought it once. I got a buyout from a health food store going out of business on E-bay a few months ago. Got 10 bottles for $5.00 plus shipping. Great buy. I am only into my 3rd bottle right now.If you wish to do further research on line yourself, the proper name for stevia is Stevia rebaudiana. This is much better for anyone with sugar problems. My two cents here, I whole-heartedly agree regarding Stevia...it does have a bit different taste, but I still feel it tastes much better than any of the other alternative sugar substitutes out there, AND it is natural!!

Just recently tried some Stevia Extract- the white powder stuff. It is very good, and it doesnt have the bitter aftertaste that green Stevia does ( I hate the taste of black licorice). I found a good deal of the NOW brand in the one pound size - about 40 bucks and 6 bucks shipping. Compared to one place I was considering I saved about 30 dollars on it. Google the 1lb Stevia or Bulk Stevia Extract or NOW Stevia Extract. A list of deals and specials should come up as stores have their different sale prices change regularly. HTH --Jamie

Stevia is definitely the way to go - there are some brands out there that taste awful, but one or two that are great. If you want to grow it yourself, you can! I have a large stevia plant on my deck as we speak. Richters is a great company to buy plants and/or the extract from. I think it's just www.richters.com. I have an email newsletter from them that goes into some detail about stevia. If anyone is interested, please email me privately and I will forward it on to you. I know I don't need to convince anyone NOT to use Equal, but let me just say that I had two years of constant migraines (after using Equal for years) and going through the entire MRI, etc. routine, Tylenol with codeine, etc., etc. I stopped using Equal and they were gone. Didn't realize it was the Equal until maybe a month or two later when we realized I hadn't had any migraines and wondered what had we done differently. It's ant poison for heaven's sakes!

Larger health food stores will sell xylitol or you can order it over the net. Stevia (I personally like it), however, the FDA will not let it be used as a sweetner in the USA. IT is sold as a supplement,poncia-myre family <jossverse wrote: Tell me about it.
