Others may have some additional help...so feel free to chime in...

I would eliminate lye based soaps in my bathing practices...

Also please be aware that very hot showers / bathing can strip oils from the

skin...

Getting enough essential fatty acids is important so a good fish oil w/ several

capsules several times a day can also be helpful...

And for the mucous membranes - I love to use my netti pot w/ 'bottle (baby's)

temp' water and salt  - about 1/2 t salt / non iodized is preferred by many...a

few drops of sesame oil can also help...this may be done several times a

day...also look at some way to humidify your environment...

I am using olive oil or  coconut oil after bath. Far better than any skin

lotion.

Make sure you drink half your weight in ounces in a day. Make sure you are

getting enough fish oil. Also make sure you have enough magnesium. The topical

kind is best (magnesium chloride). To relieve my dry skin in the winter

(because I take too hot of showers) I take a warm bath and put about a

tablespoon of macadamia nut or almond oil in the water and soak it up before

bed. This is the only way I can sleep.

Is your mouth constantly dry, do you have any other areas dry. There is

something called Sjogren's Syndrome. I have a mild case, my nose, ears and

eyes are a little dry.

Sjogren's Syndrome is an autoimmune disease, it creates a abnormal

production of extra antibodies in the blood that are directed against various

tissues of the body. It can cause inflammation in certain glands of the body.

Inflammation of the glands can produce decreased water production, like eye,

ear, mouth and lip dryness. It can also lead to dryness in other places

that need moisture, such as your nose, throat and skin. The eye dryness can

lead to eye irritation, decreased tear production, " gritty " sensation, and

itchy eyes. Many women over 40 get this.

As for dry Skin I use on my face cold pressed olive oil mixed with organic

honey. On my body I use a natural Coconut oil or Avocado oil. Sometimes

I do a facial, I smear a fresh avocado on my face, leave it on for 20

minutes and then rinse with warm water. My face skin comes out so smooth and

glowing.

I too am plagued with dry skin. So far I am treating it successfully my

making my own skin care products. Some of the most important external

things I do is to avoid vigorously drying my skin after a bath or shower and

applying my skin preparations while my skin is still moist or wet. Also,

during the cold, skin drying winter months, I apply my skin oils before I get

out of the shower. Some other external things I do is to avoid harsh soaps,

anything with alcohol as an ingredient, and I do what is called dry

brushing to my skin about once a week before I take a warm shower and then I

moisturize well after the bath. Dry brushing removes the dead skin that

accumulates thus preparing the skin to accept the moisturization. If you decide

to try some of these simple things I hope they help.
