What a lot of people don`t understand is that by the time the hurricane turned

and was headed for them it was really taking a bigger chance to leave with so

many people trying to leave, you could get caught in your car on the hwy. but

they were in a house, the ones in a trailer should have gone to a shelter, never

would I have stayed in a trailer with a catergory 4 headed my way.

You`re so right everything else could be fixed as long as her and her family

were ok that was sweet music to my ears.

Glad to hear your daughter is ok -- houses can be repaired. Did they leave the

are or try and ride out the storm?

Your right about getting caught on the highways. We lived in Fl in the late

70's/early 80' s -- we were on the edge of a hurricane (like Tampa was this

time) but the one before that one hit Panama City. The AF sent everyone from the

base up to the Army post in Alabama and there was all types of problems with

tornadoes and people driving. It truly is a guessing game.

Glad I live in Colorado now, all we have to do is worry about snow or the lack

of it. ha ha.

I have an herb farm in Mount Dora, Florida northwest of

Orlando. On Thursday and even early Friday we were smack dab in the

predicted path of the eye. Later on Friday they changed the

predicted path and indeed the actual path was further south and east.

By that time I had brought into my shop every nursery plant,

ceramic and plastic pot, lawn ornament, sign, tool, and you name

it. I'm still working on getting everything back out. (Taking a

break to go through my email)

It seems to take at least 4 times as long to get stuff back

out. Maybe it's because I'm no longer working in PANIC mode.

At any rate, all I wound up going through was a bad storm on

Friday night but no worse than lots of other bad storms totally

unrelated to hurricanes and by that time I was so exhausted I slept

through it all.

Mount Dora is unscathed but a path through central Florida

including Orlando has a lot of damage. Nothing like the coast where

the hurricane came in, however, and I am heartbroken that Sanibel

and Captiva islands (my favorite places in Florida and a wonderful

wildlife sanctuary in Sanibel)were ground zero. I don't think

they've even gotten onto those islands to fully assess the

destruction. The devastation you see on the news is on the coastal

area of the mainland.

Yes, that would be me! All that planning and absolutely no action. But after

I saw the aftermath of the " action " , I thanked the PTB that we were spared this

time. There was already a very nasty set of tornados that hit in the NW sector

of town--a 'spin-off' from hurricane Bonnie.

What really got me was the number of mobile home parks that were devastated down

there. Not trying to be funny but I thought that in that area of Florida there

was nothing but rich folk (not that anybody needs to be in such destruction but

they probably would be more likely to have other assets and insurance to be able

to recover). I think those unfortunate folk will be a long time recovering just

like after hurricane Andrew.

Scary to think that the most active month isn't even here yet...

Hope everyone else is as well as can be!
