Guest guest
hi all i have some questions regarding the correct doses of powder and raw herbs in children. regarding to raw herbs: julian scott says in his book that a 3 years old child should drink 0.3 cups a day. and that babys under the age of one year should drink one third of the amount that a 3 years old child is drinking ( it means 0.9 of a cup per day for under one year old baby). for the questions : isnt it far too little? does taking 0.9 of a cup has any affect? can someone share his experience with me? regarding to herbs taken as powder: as i understand the common rule is one gram of powder for evry 10 kilograms. is it exceptable in paediatrics as well? thank you so much for yor answers hope you understood my english avishay
Guest guest
i've got my charts for this at my clinic. i use bob flaws recomendations for ped. dosing, with satisfactory results. for an infant or young child, its done by dropperful, and yes, a little seems to go a long way in terms of effect. an infant/young child would only get 1-3T per dose, several x/day. its x # grams/herbs per pound/kilo of body weight. if i recall correctly its 140-150grams/70kilos body weight. by age 13, according to flaws, they get the full adult dose. the doses you state sound about right. i know it seems awfully low. for an acute condition, they can take the herbs up to 4-6x/day, if the parent can get the child to take the herbs that often! as far as granuels, they are typically a 5:1 concentrate (depending on the brand), so further divide the raw dose you would give by 5 to get the gran dose. for adults, i give 9-12g/day to adults, so less accordingly for peds. some herbalists dose higher in granuels. kb On 2/12/07, avishay_yamin <avishay_yamin wrote: > > hi all > > i have some questions regarding the correct doses of powder and raw > herbs in children. > > regarding to raw herbs: > julian scott says in his book that a 3 years old child should drink > 0.3 cups a day. and that babys under the age of one year should > drink one third of the amount that a 3 years old child is > drinking ( it means 0.9 of a cup per day for under one year old > baby). > for the questions : isnt it far too little? does taking 0.9 of a cup > has any affect? can someone share his experience with me? > > regarding to herbs taken as powder: > as i understand the common rule is one gram of powder for evry 10 > kilograms. is it exceptable in paediatrics as well? > > thank you so much for yor answers > hope you understood my english > > avishay > > > -- Kath Bartlett, LAc, MS, BA UCLA Oriental Medicine Experienced, Dedicated, Effective Asheville Center For 70 Woodfin Place, Suite West Wing Two Asheville, NC 28801 828.258.2777 kbartlett www.AcupunctureAsheville.com
