Guest guest
I've got an interesting request from a first year student at a local acu college. she needs to do her clinic observation off campus, and is looking for a local practitioner who is willing to allow her to come in and observe in their clinic. in return she is offering to trade office assistant, clerical or computer work. her proposal is to put an hourly rate value on various office tasks she might be asked to preform, which would vary in accordance to the level of knowledge, previous experience and skill set required to perform the task. the question is at what rate does she trade that for clinic observation hours? i was thinking that she is asking the practitioner to serve as her private clinic supervisor, providing one-on-one tutorial in addition to clinic observation in a real acupuncture office. so i'm wondering what rate clinic supervisors are being paid, in order to use that as a rate as currency for the trade. thx in adv, -- Kath Bartlett, LAc, MS, BA UCLA Oriental Medicine Experienced, Dedicated, Effective Asheville Center For 70 Woodfin Place, Suite West Wing Two Asheville, NC 28801 828.258.2777 kbartlett www.AcupunctureAsheville.com

Guest guest
some one else responded that the pay at a CO acu college was $10 for assist. sup with under 10y experience, and $20/hr for a supervisor with 10+ years experience. I don't get why practitioners would feel that rate of pay is worthwhile for their time. it's not like its a glam job with A-list celebrity contact, or something like that. Guest guest
At PCOM San Diego, classroom assistants are paid $12 per hour. I don't know what they pay their clinical supervisors, but your offer averages out to the same per hour as PCOM's class assistants.
Guest guest
Hi Kath, At PCOM-San Diego, where you and I went to school, class assistants are paid $12 per hour, or at least they were when I assisted 5 years ago. What you're being offered for clinical supervision is about the same. If it's not the local economy, then they're just plain stingy. However, I have often heard teachers complain (from a variety of TCM schools) that they're not compensated fairly for their time and efforts, especially considering the time spent outside of class, preparing lesson plans and handouts, and grading exams. It makes me wonder exactly where the tuition money goes... Guest guest
At various unnamed schools they pay $25 - $35 per hour for supervising. It's not a job one should really consider unless you love academia. Guest guest
I just looked it up on RMIT universities web site, and casual clinic supervisors get 28.50 per hour (or if they have a relevent PhD or are fully coordinating the clinical subject then they get $34 per hour) This is across all departments (so osteopaths and chiropractors would get the same I gather), however clinical nurse educators get more in the nursing program (between $40 and $60 per hour depending on qualifications and level of preparation required. ) Casual Tutors on the other hand get between $60 and $100 / hour and casual lecturers get between $80 and $200 / hour. However a standard lecture / tutorial is 2 hours, whereas a standard clinical block is a full day. (All amounts are in Australian dollars.) Regards, Lea. Guest guest
At the moment its about US $0.75 to an AUD $1.00. I dont know why the rate for a clinical supervisor is less. It could be because clinic supervision is classed as an " other activity " whereas the tutoring rate is specific to the job of tutoring. As you can see, the nurse educators have their jobs listed as a specific job, with a commensurate rate of pay, and since they have a very vocal union representation, this makes a certain amount of sense. I think that other clinicians in other modalities are just happy to get the job. Its not a huge amount of money, is it? However this is a major University. (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) and so the rate of pay isnt specific to the department, its across the board. (And the rates are for casual sub-contractors, if your a member of the faculty then you are on a salary with benefits, generally starting at 40-50K and then increasing per level as you go up the slippery pole of academia.) Guest guest
going into academia, like acupuncture, is not something you do for the potential gobs of money there for the plucking. that does ensure that those in the profession are there for the right reasons, and are dedicated. k On 1/14/07, Lea Starck <leabun1 wrote: > > At the moment its about US $0.75 to an AUD $1.00. > I dont know why the rate for a clinical supervisor is less.
