Guest guest
I was wondering if you all might have some suggestions for my soon to be 87 year old mother's breathing problems. She has kyphosis (hump on her back) from osteoporosis and also has a number of small fractures in her upper spine which have healed as well as can be expected on their own. Although the hump isn't horrible, I did see an lateral chest x-ray and her spine is definitely shaped like a " c " . I say this because I'm sure her lungs are also compressed a bit because of this. She went through a series of scans, mri's, etc., and they discovered some nodules on her lungs. Further tests proved them to be non-active. The pulmonologist said that the nodules were probably caused from chronic post-nasal drip that brought on a constant low-grade lung infection. She was given antibiotics and was put on 24 hour oxygen for a month or so. She really hated being tethered to the oxygen machine and was thrilled when she no longer had to use it. At the suggestion of her general practitioner, she gets out and walks about a mile every day. She's also someone who likes to keep busy and, with my dad gone, she really needs things to do. So, she's always cooking, baking, running to Walmart, etc. This morning she made some cannoli shells and said that it really wore her out and she had to take a few breaks. She also said that when she woke up she was a bit out of breath and felt exhausted. This afternoon she said that she feels much better. For a person of her age, she is on very little medication - 1 thyroid pill per day (she had most of her thyroid removed over 30 years ago), 1 aspirin and she uses the inhaler that that lung doctor gave her (even though I tried to talk her out of it). She is somewhat open to alternative medicine but balked a bit when I suggested that maybe she'd want to try acupuncture, although if that's something you all think might help I might be able to convince her. So, what do you think? I welcome any and all suggestions. I was going to get her a lung support product and see if that might help. Thanks very much Cecelia
Guest guest
It sounds to me that your mother has an extreme magnesium deficiency. As for the lungs, she should take natural substances such as mullein, coltsfoot, and horehound. She can purchase the bulk herbs from www.mountainroseherbs.com. These are the ingredients of lung tonics, minus any unwanted preservatives. Order the powdered forms of the herbs, or if you can't do that, purchase a small coffee grinder to convert herbs to powder. You can then add 1 level teaspoon of the powder into a glass to make tea; there is no need for filtering. Use Stevia for sweetness.
