Many years ago a Physician told me that I had to take an anticholestral

drug, as my lab work was 310.

I asked about Niacin instead. Glad I did. Also used Hawthorne berries,

garlic, and an aspirin a day.

I took- with his supervision and followup lab work- 500 mg Niacin (

Release Assured- the flush tells me its working) three times a day; of

course I had to modify my diet as well- from tamales and bacon and eggs

to fruits, veggies, grains, and oatmeal and grapefruit. Walked or rode

a bike everyday for a while- excercise.

It takes a bit of a lifestyle change; but thats a good thing seems to

me- especially since I have seen many family members die or suffer with

heart disease.

I was very strict with myself about the diet- and used Dr McDougals

basic recommendations for a while ( a book I had bought at a second hand

store). Niacin is cheap and requires no script. This can be found at

any store or pharmacy for about 3 bucks. Two bottles will last a month

the way I used them- lots cheaper than the statins.

The bad diet (dead things and grease) is what I think was killing me.

After 6 weeks my cholestral had dropped to 167...and I felt 100 percent

better.

The doc told me to keep doing what I was doing. That was in about 1987.

Long time.Seems to work for me.

The side effect is the flush. I once asked a physician why he didnt

prescribe it instead. He said people didnt like the flush and wouldnt

continue taking it. I considered the flush to be a minor thing- 15

minutes of heat. Rather miniscule it seems to me, in comparison to the

potential side effects listed for pharma poisons...

Omega 3 fatty acids also work well. 1000 mg 1-2 capsules a day.
