Hi Liz, I am farily new to this topic and far from being and expert but since

no-one else responded I'll give you some brief info and links to follow up.

 

Firstly you should never try chelation whilst you still have amalgams in place,

the reason being that you can resdistribute mecury to other areas in the body

including the brain leaving you in much worse health then when you started.

 

Secondly there are many EXTREMELY dangerous protocols out there which can cause

major damage, see for example http:www.dmpsbackfire.com So you really need to

do

a lot of reading, a lot of dentists and NDs do not know much about chelation,

and

they can suggest protocols which will make you worse. DMPS used in the correct

way can help lower mercury levels, used in the incorrect way it can leave you

permanently and severley damaged. Also be wary of any 'challenge test' again

they

can move and restribute too much mecury and leave you worse off. They are also

apparently not very accurate or useful.

You should also check out the work of Andrew Cutler, he has developed a safe

protocol using DMPS, DMSA and ALA which involves taking the chelaters based on

their half life and thus lowering redistrubtion events and further damage.

Here's some information. DMPS is widely used to detox mercury in autistic

children, so it must be relatively safe.
