The best way to answer this is to say .. about as much difference as

there is between a horse, a mouse and a man .. they share but one common

trait .. they are all mammals.

Lemon Tea Tree and Tea Tree share but one common trait .. they are

trees. They are totally unrelated .. totally different family, no

relationship to species or whatsoever .. and no common odor.

Common Names get us confused .. Butter and Horses and Butterflies and

Horse Flies .. Common Names .. and that's why we should avoid warm beer,

fat beggars and Common Names when discussing Essential Oils. :-P

So .. Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) and Lemon Tea Tree (Leptospermum

petersonii) are totally different .. they don't share no common chemical

components nor odor.

The problem with Tea Trees (there are others) began when the British

came into Australia long ago and started calling this and that tree Tea

cause its said they made Tea from them.

Dennis Archer would probably jump in with better info now .. but its

like way up in the early morning in Oz now .. methinks.

Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com

immense!

lemon tea tree is a leptospermon, not a melaleuca. It does have some

antibacterial effects, but it's best use is an a mosquito/insect

repellant. it is the most effective natural mosquito repellant I've ever

seen (and yes, I've tried the catnip oil)

Tea tree (melaleuca alternifolia) is an 'anti' oil...anti bacterial, anti

fungal.

I've seen some research that shows a blend of the two is more effective as

an antibacterial than the melaleuca by itself.

OH...and the lemon tea tree (leptospermon) is lemony scented... the tea

tree is...medicinal?? in aroma.
