Is bradycardia considered a disease entity in TCM?

Wouldn't it simply be a sign indicating that some type of cold or vacuity

syndrome was the nature of the patient's imbalance?

Bradycardia is largely a Water condition, and oddly, never a Fire situation.

Culprit in 5 E terms is a Water yin upset, marauding on HT. Slack beat is

due to Cold

which comes with the syndrome.

Bradycardia of a long standing is never a HT condition in etiologic

terms, because

HT cannot harm itself to this degree.

It is never a LV condition even when Wind may contribute Movement,

because a Mother

will always benefit the Son.

It is never a SP condition because Son won't attack the Mother, and Damp

will cause a

missed beat, but never slow cadence.

LU will never cause the condition because it is the natural victim of HT.

If the 5 E pattern is settled and Water is the culprit, setting it right

with 5

Shu Mother will, all things being equitable,

bring up the beat to normal inside of a session.

OK.

One presumes this is not a complicated arrhythmia, or High or Low BP, or

a post cardiac situation.

If the diagnosis is confirmed as a K Water yin preponderant, with yang

Consumed,

and Cold become Pervasive situation, and nothing else has gone wrong

in a functional and organic sense, the bi elemental approach would be:

Measure beats per breath, taking basal denominator as 5 beats instead of 4

Say you are at 3 beats per breath, a decided Bradycardia

Approach One:

Tone Mother of Water, Support Fire.

Details:

Tone Mother of Water:

Best time to do this in would be between 05.01 PM to 07.00 PM and the

best point

would be Metal point K 7.

Support Fire:

Best time to do this in would be again between 05.01 PM to 07.00 PM and

the best point

would be Wood point K 1, which being somewhat barbaric to use, one

replaces with

UB 65.

Needle depth:

K 7 & UB 65 - 0.2 mm, things are already sorely depleted

Needle direction:

Does not really matter, one is in the Wei of things

Needle manipulation:

K 7 - after qi is running, about a 5° turn clockwise, no more, in time you

learn to not move the needle at all and have qi run Full

UB 65 - after etc, about a 25° turn either way

Time taken for needling:

20 mts

Result interim:

The beats will begin to move up to 4 per breath, even 5, the idea is to have

it remain there and not slip back, nothing is more inviting than Cold

Approach Two:

Apply thread moxa on Cold spots on back

Here one is well off finding Cold spots on back of Up Warmer, you'll

likely find them

around the SI track, on Shu at UB 14, 15 and father afield

In practice this does not have to be exact points, just generic ones

Next move to Low Warmer and find spots which are Cold, fibrous, sunken,

grainy,

dark brown, black, tender, dull

Sometime, of an evening, you find some which are icy Cold, almost frozen

General area is on and around L K Shu

Sometimes, if patient is prone on table and back is open to view and you

hunker

to same level as the back, you can actually see one side slung low,

sometimes

even a spot which is sunken

Use tiny thread of pure wool, with a fine base of protective ointment,

the patient's sensibility is compromised

Apply in sets of 3's, go on to 9 sets or so till the Cold spots on Up Warmer

move and resolve

Best denominator is recovered color

By now the pulse has likely resolved and remains so

Treatment schedule:

Treat for 5 days straight even when you have the beat, rest for 2 days,

call for assessment

In another post, will set in 7 Markers of Righteous Heat on Face.

This is to assess K Cold and keep it at bay.
