Guest guest
Lessee if anyone has an answer to this little beaut... I was talking to me dentist a couple of months ago about dentists and their feelings on chocolate as being the most preferable of sweets because of the minute quantities of flouride in it, it doesn't stay in your mouth as long as others etc. THEN she told me something that I hadn't heard before, that chocolate, without sugar, has shown some signs of actually being able to " heal " cavities. I can't remember if she said anything about gums... Well, I've got this lovely chocolate oil from Butch (THANK YOU!) and I've been thinking of things to do with it (for those who are ignorant, it don't do candles. Unlike most E.O.'s it won't and I mean WONT stay IN the wax. Not even inbetween layers, it will actually bleed out the sides, no matter how deep in there it is, it bleeds out. Ask me how I know! >sigh<) and suddenly I remembered what my dentist said... Anyone know anything about this? Cheers! Guest guest
Hmmmm . . . it is very interesting, but it confuses me. It is acid that promotes plaque build up, which is the reason baking soda toothpaste is wonderful for tartar control. I know that chocolate is acidic, so if that is true, I don't see how it could help things any. But, I suppose their could be a chemical in it that helps, who knows? So then does it stand to reason that even if chocolate does heal cavities, it will also promote more plaque and tartar buildup, thereby creating a vicious circle?! ;-) So then I got more curious, and did a little internet search -- can you tell I have no desire to get anything real done today, LOL -- and I found this: http://biology.about.com/library/bldyknow082400.htm which basically says that the cocoa bean has antibacterials in it that will help fight tooth decay. So if it is just the antibacterial properties, I guess I would have to say that we know better ways than chocolate, sad but true!
