Is this boy taking steroids or oestrogens, or herbal medicines with oestrogenic agents? Oestrogen-secreting tumours can cause gynecomastia. In cirrhosis of the liver, there is a relative excess of estrogen that predisposes to this problem. Also heavy marijuana smokers create a relative imbalance of estrogen/testosterone levels (lowers testosterone). ST Channel runs through nipple/breast. LV (Wood) Controls Earth (ST). Four patients with cirrhosis of the liver and complaining of painful gynecomastia were treated with oral administration of the Chinese herbal remedy ‘Gegen-Tang’ (TJ-1) in conjunction with Chaihu (saiko) group drugs for liver diseases. Pain disappeared in three patients within one week, and in another patient in 4 weeks. Although the size of gynecomastia did not change significantly on mammography, palpable induration diminished or disappeared. Serum levels of estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and other sex hormones did not change significantly after TJ-1 treatment. The researchers stated that their results suggest that TJ-1could be used to help treat painful gynecomastia that is occasionally seen incirrhotic patients. Motoo Y; Taga H; Su SB; Sawabu N. Effect of gegen-tang on painful gynecomastia in patients with liver cirrhosis: a brief report. Sometimes the function of female mammary glands can also appear. A common cause of gynecomastia is the increased ratio of estradiol and testosterone in older men. Temporary enlargement of the breasts is not unusual or abnormal in boys during adolescence or during recovery from malnutrition. Gynecomastia may be abnormal as, for example, in Klinefelter's syndrome. Klinefelter's syndrome (by: Joe Hing Kwok Chu): Characterised by lacking or small testes with hyalinization of the seminiferous tubules of masculinization, lack of sperm and infertility and increased of gonadotropin in urine. Half of the patients have gynecomastia.. See: http://www.herbchina2000.com/therapies/BGN.shtml Gynecomastia (Male breast hypertrophy; Breast development in a male): A benign glandular enlargement of the male breast that is generally bilateral (may be asymmetric, or rarely, unilateral) * Type I: Benign adolescent hypertrophy * Physiologic discoid subacute mass * Resolves spontaneously * Type II: Physiologic gynecomastia * Generalized enlargement to greater degree * Type III: * Obesity simulates gynecomastia * Type IV: * Pectoral muscle hypertrophy Puberty is the most common cause in the male. The condition may occur in one or both breasts and begins as a small lump beneath the nipple, which may be tender. The breasts often enlarge unevenly. Gynecomastia during puberty is not uncommon, is self-limiting, and usually goes away over a period of months. In newborns, breast development may be associated with milk flow (galactorrhea). This condition usually lasts for a couple of weeks and in rare cases may persist until the child is two years old. It is caused by exposure to maternal hormones. Other causes of gynecomastia include chronicliver disease, kidney failure, and exposure to estrogens, androgens (often taken secretly for body building). marijuana, and some medications. Rare causes include tumors, genetic defects, and an overactive thyroid. SYMPTOMS: There are very few signs and symptoms that are associated with the this disease. Signs may appear at any time in a male's life, although the most common time of onset is during puberty. At the first indication of the disease the patient will feel pain and tenderness in the breast area due to the rapid development of the breast. The breasts grow because of the enlargement of the glandular tissue. The concentric arrangement of the connective tissue around the ducts is a characteristic feature of the active phase of gynecomastia. The enlargement of the breast is usually bilateral but some cases have unilateral enlargement. In the case of unilateral enlargement, induration, fixation, or bloody discharge should raise the possibility of carcinoma. Carcinoma is a cancerous growth of the epithelial tissues. It may be hard to distinguish true breast tissue from masses of adipose tissue without true enlargement (lipomastia). In such cases, a real case of gynecomastia can be distinguished by mammography or by sonography. Early gynocomastia is characterized by " proliferation of both the fibrobalstic stroma and the duct system, which elongates, buds, and duplicates. As the disease progresses, fibrosis and hyalinization are associated with the regression of epithelial proliferation. " Eventually the number of ducts decreases, resolution occurs by reduction in size of epithelial content leaving temporary hyaline bands behind. HERBAL TREATMENT: Herbal treatment designed to adjust endocrine and exocrine, stop pain, limit and remove lumps, prevent and treat complications, and most importantly, to boost energy and strong body for better health and quality of life. Guest guest
Hi Phil, I had to look up the diagnosis and give this site to others who are interested http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/g/gynecomastia/causes.htm One thought was phytogestrogens and xyoestrongens (sp) ie those estrogenic like substances such as those that leach out of plastic heated in microwaves. I knew of one American naturopath who stopped using soy after his breasts grew. Another thought is high diet of chicken feed hormones. Obesity in men can lead to higher than normal oestrogen levels. I would check these out along with other causes ie the tumour before considering any herbal or acupuncture treatment. If I went down the acupuncture line amongst other points I would look to see if there was PP on endocrine and pineal ear points etc. Best wishes, Chinese Medicine Chinese MedicineOn Behalf Of Phil Rogers Wednesday, 4 May 2005 12:44 PM pa-l Cc: Chinese Medicine Treatment of Gynaecomastia (Gynecomastia) Hi All, & Raman, Dr. RAMAN KAPOOR <kapuracu wrote: > Re: LI (caecum) cancer with metastasis to LV > > ... a 16 year old boy , an extremely short tempered person, gets angry > very soon, suffering from Gynecomastia . Guest guest
Excellent rundown Phil. A news item today (LATimes) stated widely used bisphenol A of polycarbonate plastic (beverage containers - and can linings - ) is estrogenic and suspect in increased rates of prostate cancer. The list of potential drug/chemical causes of gynecomastia is quite long (see Current Dx and Tx), and because (esp. at that age) it often resolves in less than a year with no treatment (I don't have stats but have both witnessed and experienced), reassurance should be a good part of the approach. Guest guest
look for a 'destroyer evil' at LV if found this is the culprit, set this right and pjlegm at breast will dissipate etiologically there could be: 1. a flank type injury which has interrupted the dai, shaoyang pair, all 3, or 2. an inherent K Water deficiency at birth which has run the LV Dry, which went crazy and marauded on ST draw an imaginary horizontal line at Ren 17 bisect this with ST vessel on affected side we have a coming together of ST, the oppressed child, and jue yin pair. the oppressing element the last thing to do, is to approach this locally the first thing to do, is to do something remotely and see the lesion disappear there is something wrong at the parental end meanwhile bleed ear apices and control anger and give the kid breathing space what is the birth date? this will say a lot on what he will do next i am talking rash actions self ward or others around him which can be mistaken for tormentors a kid with a breasts can naturally fall into an obliging role of scapegoat raman, say something holmes www.acu-free.com wrote: > Hi All, & Raman, > > Dr. RAMAN KAPOOR <kapuracu wrote: > > Re: LI (caecum) cancer with metastasis to LV > > > > ... a 16 year old boy , an extremely short tempered person, gets angry > > very soon, suffering from Gynecomastia .
