Guest guest
Hi, The difficult part is that since we are all a little different, we can respond to progesterone differently also. Some women love the creams they are on and others just don't. My story is that I had a complete hysterectomy in 1992 for a large fibroid. (Today I know of a better way to handle the situation without surgery) The Dr. put me on " the patch " and after three months I found myself intuitively throwing it away and was not concerned about hormones for the next 6 years. Then I decided to go to an alternative MD and he did a blood test and it indicated that my estrogen was extremely high with little or no progesterone. And they tell us that if you have no ovaries you cannot produce estrogen!! Wrong. He put me on a pharmacy prescription of compounded cream " just for me " . Well in three months I gained 30 pounds and he said it must be something I was eating. Wrong again. So I stopped the cream and stopped gaining weight. And yes it does store in your fat and it can take a long time to lose. This began my research into health care and my eventual degree in Naturopathy, etc.. Anyway, now I know better. What I use is a saliva hormone test for my clients. Saliva testing measures the unbound and usable hormones, whereas the bound ones are on their way out and should not be measured as they are in blood testing. The saliva test measures 5 levels of cortisol, 2 progesterones, 3 estrogens, testosterone, SigA, Gluten, DHEA, TSH, free T3 and free T4. This provides an excellent picture of what is happening at the endocrine level. The remedies are homeopathic which I love! Homeopathics bring balance.. For instance if estrogen is too high it brings it down and if it is too low it brings it up. Basically it helps the body do what it is supposed to do. No side affects. In three months time my originally very high estrogen was in the high range of normal - whew! And my progesterone was back in the normal range. The remedies are in a liposome based cream and contain other parts of the endocrine system --- hypothalamus, cortisol, pituitary, etc. It is best to work with the whole endocrine system in bringing balance back as it is not just progesterone that might be high or low; it is how it is manufactured in the system and so you have to look at the whole system. Adrenals (cortisol is made there) is where some hormones are made when you don't have ovaries or when they stop working, so the adrenals are extremely important. And yes, the liver is where hormones are conjugated, so liver health is critical as well. Happy reading.
