Obama explains elimination of private insurance

I don't understand all the hostility towards this bill.

I am VERY skeptical that any kind of real reform will come out of Washington,

but this is at least is a step in the right direction (albeit a small one).

And for those who say we are rushing this bill through - we aren't really.

We've been talking about health care reform for decades. (And this bill isn't

set in stone. It is able to be modified as much as is needed.)

Every time someone tries to do anything about health care, the lobbyists come

out of the woodwork and try to scare the public and pay off our politicians

(Hillary Clinton back in the early 1990's).

Right now the insurance companies make money off of us for being sick. They

make even more money off of us when they deny coverage when we are sick. Are

those that are against the bill content with this? That you are worth more to

them sick than well?

There is absolutely no incentive for the health insurance companies to provide

preventative care, alternative medicine, or insure those with pre-existing

conditions.

And whoever thought that tying health care to our jobs made a whole heck of a

lot of sense?! It is just plain crazy.

I feel so bad for those who are sick and do not have health insurance. To have

to choose between your life and bankruptcy is simply immoral and heart breaking.

If the government would take over health care, it would actually save money to

offer preventative care - treating people who are already sick is MUCH more

expensive.

I for one would like to see single-payer, but I'm not very hopeful.

One thing is for sure, this will be a tough battle. I just hope those with the

most money won't win. But they always have in the past...

If you any kind of insurance, private/job related or Medicaid, they may say no

you can't have or do something. The government tell us what we can and can't on

the local, state and Federal level. Even our Parents and family set parameters

so what's the real problem?

Look, we deserve good health care that won't break us. End of story.

I read somewhere that only 39% of Americans approve of the obama sick care

plan. I do not want the government telling me what meds I can/cannot have,

and when they want me to die!

please enlighten me as this has been tried and failed in Canada and all

over Europe. people DIE waiting to get government care. sure it is

'free'.. fat lot of good that does when you die waiting 5 year for that

heart repair... or you are over the age of usefulness so you are not

approved... or you used your allotment already on an ingrown toenail...

what about that little diddy of they will just remove from your bank

account whatever they feel your 'free' medical cost them... and a few

things like that if you actually read the proposed bill which the media

has not nor most of the politicians that are supposed to be voting on

this nightmare.

and why will your president ignore the direct question of would he put

his family on this plan? or any of congress - the Kennedy version

specifically removes them from using this form of health care.

for those that want an eye opener - watch Hannity on Fox news at 8pm

central tonight

lets here the rest of the story

in the meantime - there are things we can do to help ourselves the the

government would never think of much less approve.. modern medical

private practice mostly does not agree that herbal - holistic -

alternative therapy exist. I'd sure hate to see the 'state' run version

approve of these things.. much less the push that has failed so far to

outlaw some vitamins

Melissa, You make good points regarding lobbyists of the insurance and

pharma companies. But the fact that the present system is unacceptable,

does not mean that we are to take whatever they want to put in front of

us. I would like the time to read the bill, ponder about it and then

render a decision. The problem is that, in spite of Obama's claim that

every bill would be posted for 48 hours in the web, he is not fulfilling

his promises.

Furthermore the inclusion of a government aspect is to say the least,

frightful.

I want to see Obama performing on anything before I trust him. He

agreed with pharma on & 80 billion and now that Pelosi is queasy about

the figure, he is reneging..

I think the current system is not acceptable and must be changed but to

something better .

I would like to see the government forcing price bargaining with the

pharma industry as Canada France and others do. In this country the

vetera hospitals bargain the prices. Why doesn't' him begin with

something like that. What makes anyone believe that he will be able to

pull the trick once " universal disease management " is in place. Let him

try now.

As I say, he must prove himself before he pushes this monstrous project

down our throats.

I have many friends in Canada & England. They are very happy with their

health care. Sure maybe a few people die waiting for treatment----it

happens everyday in this country due to not having any health care plan!

The plan that our government proposes is not the same as those. . .you can

keep your private insurance . . .no one is planning to take it away . . .it

may even be cheaper than you are paying now as your insurance company will

be competing for your business.

This has not happen. . .another point to discuss with your representatives

and senators. I don't have a problem with paying my fair share. I'll

gladly pay! I pay a lot of my bills by direct withdrawal even my taxes. My

government has never taken more money from my account other than the amount

I owed.

He can afford any private policy he wants for his family. He can afford

it! If I could afford private insurance, I would. He is not eliminating

private insurance - government insurance is an option for people that cannot

get private insurance.

I won't waste my time! I don't believe a word that Fox news report.

Again, we have to pay for our vitamins/supplements now. We, as citizens,

should be involved with our representatives and inform them we do not want

our supplements outlawed. Instead of complaining on this forum, go visit

your congressman's office while they are out of session and let them know

how you feel. I have contacted my representatives and expressed my desire

for government health care. You can the same for your point of view.

No, you will not be able to keep your private insurance - as soon as your

private insurance co. makes any change to their insurance at all, (raise the

premium, add/delete coverage, etc.) - then you will have to switch over to

the gov't. run insurance. So eventually EVERYONE will be required to be on

it. If you choose not to be included, then you face a stiff fine, so they

got you.

The government doesn't know how to run businesses - just look at the debacle

they just made with the cash for clunkers. But soon obama will own

everything in the country.

If everyone thinks health insurance is costly now, just wait until it's

free!!!!

It's hardly failed in Canada. Someone posted a propaganda video on Facebook and

I was shocked by some outright lies from a woman who claimed to be Canadian. I

suppose if stuff like this is airing on TV as ads, then it's no wonder there is

so much negativity and misunderstanding about it. People aren't exactly dying

in the streets here, LOL!

The system isn't perfect but what's going on in the US is pretty pathetic too.

As a matter of fact I think they cover TOO much here in Canada. Many

preventable diseases are " treated " with expensive surgeries and hospital stays

when a few dietary changes could have reversed the illness.

I'd love to see more in the way of education and prevention but unfortunately

people have given their brains over to the doctors instead of researching and

looking for answers elsewhere.

Banning or heavily taxing junk food would cut down on the costs of health care.

They did it with cigarettes and hardly any Canadians smoke these days. It's

socially unacceptable and looked down upon. They could do the same with any

foods that have added chemicals. They added a 5% tax quite a long time ago to

processed foods but that's not nearly enough to make a difference in purchasing

habits.

Bottom line is that there is no such thing as a perfect system anywhere but it

would be nice if we got proper education about how to eat, avoiding toxins, etc

so that we could STAY healthy! Even though I don't use the system, I'm glad

that if I'm in an accident, I'm covered and won't go bankrupt and have to live

in a tent or with relatives!

Oh yes Carol, you are soooooo right! When I worked in Europe, 1/3 was

deducted from my pay check per month. The employer had to pay the same amount.

That really hurt, especially since I never needed that much health care..

And I really abhor the fact that my taxes are going to pay the health

insurance of illegal aliens!!! They're illegal for heaven's sake!!! Send

them back from whence they came. Eisenhower stopped illegal immigration

(operation wetback). Why can't that be done again?

Personally, I haven't been to the doctor in about 30 years, except for an

elbow injury. Why do I have to pay all these outrageous taxes for someone

else's health insurance!!! But we have to " spread the wealth around " . So

I'm being penalized because I make more money than some illegal alien. I

think I'm going to quit work and go live in a box and live off everybody

else.

Dear Group,

Please delete my e-mail from your list. I have enjoyed the group's information,

especially the updates I received regarding cancer and treatments when my friend

was ill. Now I see more and more political information regarding health care. If

people didn't agree with Obama's plan, they really should have voted differently

instead of complaining on this forum. I am happy to see a president get off his

duff to try and repair what is wrong. I see enough of this info on the news,

I prefer not to receive it from a group that I thought would help with

alternative medical treatments instead of office visits and pills.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Wayne

I hope that this thread is now at an end. The racism and prejudice now

coming out is making me ill.

I, personally, don't think this has anything to do with race. I like to hear

people's opinions, and it does have to do with health and healthcare. But, I do

appreciate everyone's different opinions. I've been struggling with this issue

on both sides, because of some concerns of mine. I don't want to be forced to

have insurance that I don't use except for a catastrophe. The immigration issue

is way out of hand, and agree about that.

When posters begin using racial slurs, it has become racist. You have

ceased to have a rational discussion at that point. I prefer to allow

myself to be governed by love of all beings no matter the nationality and

how they got here.

My little newborn grandson is Hispanic. I don't believe we would condone

the use of other derogatory racial slurs. " Wetback " is one of those words

that hurt.

But, then, I'm Native America. My culture has had more time to come to

grips with illegal immigrants :-)

Rather than continue a debate that has ceased to in any way be concerned

with alternative medicine, I'd like to hear thoughts about how alternative

therapies are coming to be covered by health insurance plans. Blue Cross

now offers discounts on massage therapy and reiki. I, for one, think that

is great!

Dear Group,

Please delete my e-mail from your list. I have enjoyed the group's

information, especially the updates I received regarding cancer and

treatments when my friend was ill. Now I see more and more political

information regarding health care. If people didn't agree with Obama's plan,

they really should have voted differently instead of complaining on this

forum. I am happy to see a president get off his duff to try and repair what

is wrong. I see enough of this info on the news, I prefer not to receive it

from a group that I thought would help with alternative medical treatments

instead of office visits and pills.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Wayne

And I really abhor the fact that my taxes are going to pay the health

insurance of illegal aliens!!! They're illegal for heaven's sake!!! Send

them back from whence they came. Eisenhower stopped illegal immigration

(operation wetback). Why can't that be done again?

Personally, I haven't been to the doctor in about 30 years, except for an

elbow injury. Why do I have to pay all these outrageous taxes for someone

else's health insurance!!! But we have to " spread the wealth around " . So

I'm being penalized because I make more money than some illegal alien. I

think I'm going to quit work and go live in a box and live off everybody

else.

I totally agree with Wayne here. I have been thinking seriously about also

leaving the group. While I understand that a lot of members of this group are in

the US, so will be affected by the insurance issue, I personally am in the UK,

so (no offence) but I don't really care about it!

This is more a political issue than one relating to alternative healthcare

methods - surely a political would be a better place to discuss

this?

Moderators, can you do something about this please, before you lose a lot of

Thank you Vicky, I was beginning to think is was just me getting annoyed. For

information, I was hesitant about leaving the group, but I really have had

enough of the political drama.

With all due respect it is hardly racist to say that you don't want

illegal immigrants in the country. ILLEGAL immigrants are, by

definition, ILLEGAL. There's nothing wrong with pointing out that it

does not make sense to force honest, LEGAL citizens to cover the care

and costs of dishonest, ILLEGAL non-citizens. And certainly nothing

racist about it.

I can say this because my own three, sweet children are half-hispanic in

descent. My husband, who's family has been US citizens longer than some

of the states of this union, feels the same exact way. How is that

racist? To feel that immigration should happen through the legal,

established channels and that all who come should be contributing

members of society? I feel like I missed something.

Just because MOST illegal immigrants are hispanic doesn't mean they all

are. A fair number are African and chinese, often young girls brought in

for illegal purposes. Illegal immigrants are exploited and abused in

alarming numbers. I'm not sure how it's racist to want to stop this

wide-spread abuse from happening.

You know what, I am not going to discuss this with you.

This group is supposed to be about Alternative Medicine NOT politics, health

care reform, cats, dogs, or whether or not aliens have landed in Texas and

abducted armadillos.

If alien-abducted armadillos turn out to be a good remedy for sciatica, then

that would be on topic.

Until then, I am more than happy to not hear your political views and I will

not subject you to mine.

And since we have already seen facism mentioned more than once, I am

probably not alone in saying we invoke Godwin's Law of the Internet and

declare this subject done to death and over.

Wayne - I did NOT vote for him.

Karen - " Wetback " is not my definition - that is what it was called -

Operation Wetback.

So on a happy note - I know of someone who cured herself of cancer, after

she had gone through chemo, radiation, etc. The doctors had given up on her

and told her to go home and get her " things in order " . She met some " raw

fooders " (foodists?) and gave it a try. She eliminated meat, dairy, sugars

- pretty much everything except raw whole foods. She had an xray and shows

cancer-free. Her doctor doesn't believe it.

Dear Carol,

No one said you did vote for " him " . My point was that political debates should

be taken up on a different forum. Alternative answers about health (as you

included in your e-mail about cancer) is very beneficial and welcomed. That is

exactly what I was expecting to receive from this group. Thank You. Very good

information. Your friend that cured herself of cancer is very lucky. My friend

wasn't, too little, too late.

Regards,

Wayne
