Guest guest
Thanks so much to everyone for all the interesting information posted here. I'm wondering if I could ask a question about shen disturbances, especially those manifesting as major depression, dissociation, and anxiety disorders. I know the spirit resides in the blood, and when there is a disturbance, it lifts off. Does anyone know more about this, or have any information on the traditional treatments with acupuncture and herbs? Some TCM practitioners also seem to approach the treatment of shen disturbances almost as soul retrieval, in a manner similar to Native American shamans, so any info along those lines would also be greatly appreciated. I'm not finding too much about shen disturbances (also referred to various places as heart disturbances or soul disturbance) and I'm wondering if anyone might have more information (the more detailed the better!) that could be posted to the list as it may be of interest to others, and also any ideas for internet references or links where I could read more. I know treatment will be based very much on the individual, but are there any specific herbs known to be particularly helpful in long-term, treatment-resistant cases? Thanks so much to all! Guest guest
Hi, We use a five phase approach of greater mind-body-soul interaction and awareness within themselves and with their greater environment. keats65 wrote: > Some TCM practitioners also seem to approach the treatment of shen > disturbances almost as soul retrieval, in a manner similar to Native > American shamans, so any info along those lines would also be > greatly appreciated. > Richer optimistic contacts can depression proof people, with examples from terrible POW camps and the like. This links to self-explanatory style and appreciating oneself and the world, most often in Taoist (and also buddhist) ways. The same process can handle asthma and some allergies. Googling on " metaskills " will provide some clues. Another way to put it is soul extension, deeper inward, and also outward into the living world in deepened bonds. Guest guest
Linda: We have recently had a discussion about this on the list that I moderate, TCM and Mental Illness. Long gu (Dragon bone) and Niu Huang may be useful here, there are a number of acupoints that can be used as well. If i can find the time I'll try to post all this information. I looked into the soul retrieval issue after reading about vampirization, by Edmund Meadows, who publishes a remote viewing website called Viking Remote Viewing. Practitioners on the list cautioned against soul retrieval, saying this can invite further damage. They suggested there may be ways to help the soul without invading the soul's space. Meadows has a line about how removing someone's mental illness is not doing them any good (??) He does say that TCM, especialy acupoints that stimulate the pineal gland, are one effective way of helping. I'm not clear at all about how to remove the vampire's hold over someone. On another level, a Russian scientist suggests that mental illness, especially schizophrenia, is induced by sexual molestation. This fits in with the idea of vampirization, as molesters are usually those who have been molested, and are driven to molest others. Adolph Zeilinsky, the Russian scientist, has a therapy for dealing with mental illnesses but has not yet made the specifics of this public. TCM does have a number of ways of dealing with shen disturbances, and depression. Soul retrieval is another, but it may be difficult to find anyone capable of doing this. Best wishes, Jack --- keats65 <keats65 wrote: > > > Thanks so much to everyone for all the interesting > information > posted here. Guest guest
These ways of dealing with shen disorders - (spirits, ghosts, vampires, etc.)are not familiar to me and seem speculative - to say the least. I would think that ordinary causes of shen disorders are suffecient to keep the practioner busy trying to analyze the case. My observation is that generalised stress disorders cause most disturbances of the shen. Some examples are Autonomic imbalances - when the normal balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic system is lost the heart often suffers and becomes unstable - with palpatations, etc. Related issues are excess cortisol and or excess thyroid - the opposite issue is adrenal exhaustion and hypothyroidism all of these problems can imbalance heart rythym. Liver issues such as 'rising evil liver wind' can cause heart neurosis. Poor sugar metabolism as in Syndrome X type problems disturb normal heart rythyms. Stomach weakness can cause stagnation of water and gas and cause upward pressure on the heart. There are many ordinary events that cause the heart to lose it's electrical rythym. It is not necessary to refer to spirit and vampire involvement to understand these cases. Many modern thinkers are developing theories about heart disrythmias. In general I beleieve that these problems are a sympathetic nervous system problem and are related to many serious problems like chronic insomnia. One theorist states that if a person with anxiety and hypervigilance as well as other general stress symptoms can get a good night's sleep the symptoms will gradually lessen. I agree with this. The nervous system and the hyperreactive states must be calmed - before the heart can relax and start functioning according to its natural rythym. Accupuncture is very helpful for the rebalancing of the Autonomic system. If not corrected this problem will become worse as we age. I recently read about a new therapy that is being developed to correct these minute rythym fluctuations in heart beat. The poster mentions sexual abuse as a cause of shen disturbance - any major trauma can set into motion the process that ends up as shen disorder. There is nothing special or determanitive about sexuality except that it has the potenial for creating powerful reactions. Truma in and of itself causes stress if this stress becomes chronic then we have the picture of further and further imbalance in the yin and yang - this will inevatability disturb heart rythym. Solve the chronic stress issues and the shen will also calm. Excess Adrenaline is very important here! And from that we can see the kidney involvment - all of this is classic natural medicine and needs no further searching for the solutions. My bf has depression, sometimes deep, and his sleep is restless. I can see where lack of good sleep could certainly trigger physiological imbalances. He also had rheumatic fever as a child, which I believe could have traumatized his Heart energy. sue
