New Member with a question...expect as an hourly rate?

Hi all! This is my first post and I need your help.

First things first, I am a licensed massage therapist living in

Colorado. I specialize and certified in injury specific,

neuromuscular, and medical massage, but enjoys doing it all! I'm

working on having my own practice again (i had one in Florida, but

moved here 6 monthes ago) so I am basically starting from scratch!!!!

There is def alot more to say, but I want to ask a

question.........maybe you guys/girls can help. I have been working as

a CA with an acupuncturist/chiro/nutritionist and she asked me if i

wanted to do massage as well. I told myself I wouldn't do massage for

anyone else again, but I really don't want to say no to another source

of income, ya know!! So, what should I ask or expect as an hourly rate?

i would only be doing 30minute specific massage before they see the

doc. please help I need to know before monday.

I have to agree with Cindy on pricing. Have you checked out the area as to what

a CMT gets?

Are you Nationally Certified? Did you have to do anything special license wise

to work out of

Colorado? Just asking, I was CMT as well but due to my brain tumor I've had to

put my practice

on hold. :-( I trully miss it.

 

For 30 min I would'nt do anything less than $1 a minute. A massage is a massage

and takes the

same amount of toll on YOUR body wether it's 10 minutes or an hour.

I have a friend who is a massage therapist who did exactly what you are talking

about. It actually helped her independent practice and gave her income at the

same time. She did limit her availability with the doctor so that she could

build her own practice. That would be an interesting balancing act.

The going rate for a full body massage in central Oregon is about $65, so I

think Cindy's recommendation of $30 might be fair. Does the doctor want a

percentage of that? Or is he going to add his overhead on top of it? Not

knowing the market in Colorado, it's hard to know where that rate works in to

your market.

Well you guys have made me think!! Thanks for the info!

I think it would be a better idea to as for a split. I also do CA

work and get paid hourly. I don't want it to get too confusing, but

it seems like it starting to get that way. I also think its a good

idea to limit when i'm working as a LMT and a CA. It would be a

great way to re-start my practice. I just want to make sure I do it

right, I have a feeling once we start the process it will be hard to

change pricing and wages. I'm nationally certified and certified in

medical massage, injury specific, neuromusculat, lymph, CORE

myofascial, ect. I know that I am qualified i just don't want to get

screwed. If it doesn't work out for me I will be quiting 2 jobs

instead of just one. Oh, and the rates here are $45 for 30minutes

and $65 for 60minutes. That is the lower rates. Plus i can't get

gratuity because its medical treatment, eventhough we are out-of-

network and insurance usually doesn't pay for massage.

a friend of mine is a massage therapist...don't know the area rates (you could

call other businesses and get an idea of what they charge so as not to over or

under charge) but my friend charges $35 for thirty minutes.
