Guest guest
Namaste, From what I remember when my children were babies, you are NOT supposed to give them honey until they are over a year old. Guest guest
From everything I have read it is very unsafe to give babies under a year honey, especially a sick baby. This is due to Botulism. As for trying to hydrate a sick baby they should be getting all they need from their milk (breast or formula). Babies should not require extra water or other liquidsbut at that age you could supply some apply juice, only a few oz a day, which should be sweet enough. What type of liquid are you trying to sweeten up to get the baby to drink? Some things to look for is dry mucous membrains, no tears, dry mouth, small urine output and in younger babies a sunken fontanelle. If in doubt seek medical attention as babies can dehydrate and may need IV fluid. " Google " it, there's lots of info out there regarding this danger. Jean

Guest guest
Yeah - don't do it. It's widely recommended NOT to give honey to children until they are at least a year old. The honey does have medicinal properties, but it can also contain botulism spores that a tiny baby's immune system is not prepared for. Breastmilk is the best thing you can give the baby at this point. If he/she is sick, just let them spend as much time at the breast as possible until they're better and then let them spend more time nursing ;-). If the baby's formula fed, that clearly won't work. But stay away from the honey. , " Robert " <antiqmon2004 wrote: > > Are there any thoughts on giving 6 or 7 month old babies honey to > sweeten liquids when they are sick to get them to drink them. and > prevent dehydration. Guest guest
Why not just use organic cane sugar non whitened! Or you go the root of the grandmother 30 years a go and use a bit of corn syraup. Just go lightly they don't need much because it is new taste as they will love! Guest guest
Corn Syrup and High Fructose Corn Syrup are not healthy for anyone. Like cane sugar, beet sugar etc all will cause the pancreas to work harder and put the whole adrenal system into overdrive. This eventually sets a person up for Type II diabetes. Stevia or Natural Fructose are a much better choice. Stevia does not interefer with blood sugar. Fructose is natural sugar and the body utilizes it naturally, without going into overdrive. Guest guest
You could use Xylitol, check to see it is non GMO. Known to kill bactereia, it is sweet as sugar, can use it like sugar even in baking with no aftertaste like Stevia sometimes has. It is being used in mouthwashes, gums and saline nose sprays because it is so effective and many dentists are now recommending too. Guest guest
Namaste Robert, I just thought of something. You can feed the baby food that has a lot of water content in to help with hydration. Like watermelon or any fruits in the melon group. Oranges, tangelos, etc. broken up real good without the seeds; grapes, seedless red or green. I always gave my babies juice and water bottles often, as well. Good luck & blessings! Guest guest
The reason Homney is not recommende for children under 2 is because: Honey has micro bacteria which can cause an allergic reaction in kids. so after the child's immune system is deveoloped Honey is alright/good , " Marie " <wakerens wrote: > > My children are now teens and I was told not to give honey till 2 yrs > old as well.... > Gabby > > > , " Kathy " <kathy@> wrote: > > > > Children under two should not have honey ever! Guest guest
hygroscopic property of honey saps the moisture from bacteria that come in contact with it. how can micro organisms live in it? Guest guest
Honey isn't recommended to give to children til they are over a year old. They could develop allergies to it because their bodies arent used to it! There are some liquids that are made for babies to drink when they are sick and have flavours so that the babies will drink them.
