Herbal Remedies - canker sores

I don't think it would hurt as bad as you may think. As some of you may know I had a bout w/ undiagnosed Impetigo. I unfortunately had an area of it on/in the right nostril opening, on the exterior edge and inner hole/opening ( mucous membrane. I put a little almond oil on a sculptured peice of cotton and some cayenne pepper powder as well. I lodged it up into my nostril and taped it there for the night. Now, bear in mind my head was on a pillow, the cotton was packed, BUT my nose weaped not only from the sore but from just pure moisture or whatever, snot ? In the morning when I pulled it out from my nostril the cotton was soaking. This defenately isn't the inside of the mouth where we associate 'hot foods' but I guarantee you if you pack cotton/cayenne NEATLY between gum and cheek for a night you wouldn't taste a thing. Cayenne pain in the tender membrane areas is a dull pain feeling (to me, anyway), not a hot spicy tasting pain.OOOOOWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!But effective.Zeb_______________Lose those love handles! Years ago I had an extremely evil canker sore on the inside of my bottom

lip. Our family had an MD that was was ahead of her time when it came to

healing

naturally. I saw her about the sore as I tried everything I could think of

to help heal it. She suggested I go to the nearest drugstore and buy

several small

pieces of licorice candy. Chew them up and run the salivia around the sore.

No limit on how often I could use this - can't remember if it numbed the

pain - but

what I do remember is this sore started to clear up the next day. It still

took another day or two to clear completely, but this is a sore that was

HUGE and I had been treating it with salt water and numbing agents for two

weeks.

My step daughter gets them from time to time and I always have black

licorice on hand to help heal her. I don't know if licorice root tea would

do the trick, never tried it. I don't know why it wouldn't - it's been

shown licorice cures ulcers of the stomach.

I use to get them all the time too...got rid of a lot of stress in

my life, and watched the acid/alkaline food ratio...too much acidic

food will contribute to them..

Carol, Frequently, when I have had similar issues, I have found that I am

under some stress & a high potency B complex vitamin works well --

as well as the homeopathic Mercurius Solubus -- actually, at the 1st sign of

a canker sore I will take the Merc Sol (sometimes will use Merc Vivius ) & the

canker sores never get " full - blown "

Ouch. Carol, a zinc deficiency can cause recurrent canker sores as

well as food allergies.

To treat them, the amino acid Lysine is excellent as is Lactobacillus

acidophilus. Rinsing with aloe vera juice is soothing.

Feel better,

Michelle

Thanks Michelle, the nice doctor told me it was a viral infection and

that I should buy ambesol and freeze the areas for the next few days,

lol...I ended up taking some antihistamines, and freezing the area. The

swelling has gone down ( now I can be seen with my kids, lol). I'm going

to be looking at my multivitamins, see where I am lacking, and hopefully

get that fixed up.

The weird thing is I have all these canker sores and today, they don't

bother me a bit, it's very strange..

Now the other stuff you mentioned, where would I get that? A regular

health food store?

Thanks Again..

Carol

Hi Carol,

Good to hear you're feeling better. A bad case of canker sores (not

to be confused with cold sores - a herpes virus) can actually cause

fever, swollen glands and the whole bit! No fun.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is a probiotic. You'll find it in yogurt

and it, along with other probiotics, are very helpful for many

things. I encourage using a good quality blend (multiple " strains " )

as they have different functions and break down differently in the

stomach. Look for them in the refrigeration of your local health

food store. Some are shelf stable.

If your canker sores are recurrent, you might have a food allergy.

Also, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), found in some toothpastes, is

thought to be a cause. In one trial, most recurrent canker sores

were eliminated just by avoiding toothpaste containing SLS for three

months. It's nasty stuff anyway and is better avoided.

Happy Monday!

Michelle

We talked to her dentist and he had no answers only to use kanka which basically numbs them until they go away. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Blessings,Kendra

The cause of canker soars is unclear, but their is a possible

relationship to a lowered immune response. Food sensitivities are

also suspected as well as nutritional deficiencies.

Im wondering if she has any digestive concerns and if she ever

suffers from constipation. You may want to try her on a restricted

diet for allergens for two weeks. Remove a known allergen such as

wheat from her diet for two weeks and then reintroduce it and see how

she does. You will want to use herbs that support her immune system

such as Echinacea. You can also try a mouth wash which consists of

equal parts of red sage and chamomile. Make an infusion and have

her gargle with it. Hope this helps.

Was it allergies to foods? Which ones. I remember my husband use to

always get them. He thought it was tomatoes, ketchup.
