Guest guest
B complex, and yes, you can take all of these with no worries that they will react with your meds. I would also highly recommend SAM-e. It's kinda expensive, but very helpful. Start low and work up in dosage. I take B-complex in the morning cuz it can give you energy, and magnesium at bedtime cuz it can help you sleep. I take fish oil all day long. I used to get awful night sweats with Effexor. Sure glad to be done with that. Krys - emily morris herbal remedies Wednesday, May 03, 2006 2:45 PM Herbal Remedies - deppression i am currently on effexor, and have been for four years i cant say that they are working as they used to . would it be ok if i took vitamin b ,magnesium and fish oils . by the way ,which vitamin b supplement do you mean thanks in advance. linda m linda Introducing the new Answers Beta – A new place to get answers to your questions – Try it
Guest guest
I think you'd benefit from the extra vitamins and fish oil in itself is excellent for so many things - couldn't hurt! As far as a certain brand of B vitamins, I buy Nature Made B complex from my grocery store. Tori
Guest guest
I was put on effexor as a "precationary" med since I have a neur disorder. I never noticed any differences from it at all except a decrease in sexual functions. although I had and still do take b complex, fish oils and a variety of other vitamins and supplements but no magnesium as I cant take it with my illness. perhaps that’s why I never felt different? maybe. just thought I'd post what I knew of this. melisa

Guest guest
Hi MeLissa, Several years ago I got off drugs for bipolar and into the orthomolecular stuff - vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc. As I understand it, there are lots of things you can take, it just depends on your particular metabolism. There are many labs in the US which can do the complete metabolic testing to determine what supplements exactly you need. There are also many great books detailing the different patterns behind the "mental illness" metabolic imbalances that can guide you in chosing supplements. Omega 3 fish oil in high doses is great, if you are not taking it already. I found out the hard way that too much causes mania in those so inclined. I didn't have the same intensity of withdrawl you are speaking of since I wasn't on anti-depressants, but it was recommended to take soy protein isolate (one type of sports protein powers) to help with withdrawl - and it did. Good luck, Rachel temperancewhispers wrote: I know I am. Guest guest
Mz_Roe, I know of 4 things that may help if you have not already tried them. 1. Guided Meditation - You can download free meditations from hayhouse.com from the Meditations to Go archives. I'd suggest you do one in the morning and one before bed. At first, do one anytime you feel bad until you can cut back. 2. Hypnosis - Regressive hypnosis is the best for depression, but behavioral hypnosis may also help. 3. Self-Esteem - Address any self-esteem issues you may have initially. It is very difficult to be depressed if you have good self- esteem. 4. Balance - Find a balance in your life. Look at mind, body, and spirit. I believe depression is caused by an imbalance in your life. Sending you love and light... Guest guest
If your depression isn't too far gone, try doing things you enjoy, get a hobbie, something you are passionate about. Try to stay away from things that depress you or better yet, look them in they eye, and verbally tell them, " You are NOT going to make me depressed. I REFUSE to allow it " . Sometimes saying things aloud, really helps. Look in the mirror 3 or 4 times a day and say " YOU are a WONDERFUL person with alot to give!!!! YOU will be fine. " This can help, as well as any other advice folks here might have. Look in the mirror and SMILE! (((((bug hugs)))))) and good luck! Guest guest
Hi , You can try Kriya Yoga but it needs to be done under a trained teacher. Here are the details: Kriya Yoga is closely related to Kundalini Yoga, Raja Yoga, and Tantric Yoga. It is a powerful system of meditation, utilizing concentration, visualization, mantra (inner sound), and devotion. Another important aspect of this meditation is the controlled use of the breath (pranayama) in order to generate a balanced flow of Life Energy (prana and apana) within the spinal column. Kriya Yoga generates intense energy, heightening awareness, sharpening perception, dissolving stress and anxiety, and is an excellent yoga for depression. Kriya Yoga should only be practiced under the guidance of a trained teacher. Besides try laughter therapy.Laugh as much as possible.Just think about things which are bothering you and work out a worst case scenario i.e. what is the worst that can happen and then decide that you can handle it.Things will start falling in place automatically. Guest guest
When I get in a funk, fish(I eat a can of tuna made into tuna salad) and dark chocolate work for me. No side effects either. You can use as much or as little as you need. Tuna tends to take about 45minutes and can last a long time, days even. Chocolate's effect for me is pretty much immediate. Of course I am not a doctor. These are personal experiences. I claim no cures or liability in conjunction with my answer. Good luck. mz_roe <mz_roe wrote: Does anyone have any natural suugesstions to combat deppresstion? Guest guest
This is good advice. I would add that you want to look at what stressors are going on in your body. Are your hormones out of balance, Neurotransmitters are unbalanced, high stress and chaos in the home and work place? Diet? Parasites? Are you dealing with fungus or adrenal exhaustion? All of these can be the underlying cause of depression. Parasites are notorius for being involved in depression. Guest guest
There are many things available to effectively treat depression. It just depends what your body needs. Start with a good diet, no sweets, regular exercise (outside is best), and a little sunshine. Surround yourself with positive people, check your negative thoughts and try to turn them around. It's ok to seek the help of a professional to talk about the depression. Sometimes you can figure out where it is coming from or what triggered it this time around. Techniques used include Thought Field Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique, EMDR, and many others. I have also had really good results with accupuncture and by working with a nutritionist. There are a lot of options. Hope you feel better soon. Barb www.milehicounseling.com
Guest guest
Make sure that you are taking enough calcium each day - also, massage (even hugging, just some form of positive touch) is excellent for depression, since it helps to release the " happy hormones " in your body - Make sure that you're taking enough time for yourself each day
