Hi there,

Just have a quick question. A friend of mine wants to make raspberry soap

(with a FO) and wants to color it pinkish. What can she use to color the

soap? I'm also curious as how to color soaps for when I make soap.

TIA

Michele

Paprika will color soap a coral pink color :)

Other coloring agents for CP soap right off the top of my head are:

Powdered Parsley, Powdered Dill, Olive Pomace Oil - Green

Coffee - Brown

Red Sandalwood - Purple

Alkanet Powder - Purple to Deep Blue

I'll try to get a more extensive list together later :)

My personal suggestion is to dye the base oil. Grind up the herb or chop

it up finely (if you don't want pieces in there you can strain it).

Stick it in the bottle of base oil, cork or cap and let sit overnight. A

little at a time, add a few pieces each day until it is the right color.

Some of the darker colors require a little heat to work. If you can set

it in the sun. If not, VERY CAREFULLY heat in the microwave for just a

bit on low. It is very easy to cause burns and explosions by heating oil

in the microwave, so please be careful!! But it is an option in an

emergency:)

If you recipe has some other fat in it, you can dye that. Most cold

process soaps and melt and pours don't seem to bring out the color as

much, so dyeing the base oil beforehand helps you get close to the color

you want (it will still change).

Morning Angie,

Sure post it, but keep in mind folks .. that list was just of dye herbs, not necessarily ones good for coloring soaps. Those dye herbs can be used to dye wool red for example but may turn soap a funny color. Because of the lye and saponification process one has to be careful what they use to color soap lest they end up something very UGLY, or at the very least - undesirable *LOL*
