I think it is important that people matriculating to the CM schools

understand that there is a more to a bright future than just an education. I

may be repeating myself -- exuse me if I am repeating this -- but I have read

several hundred student " business plans " during eight years of teaching in

the 1980's and only a small portion of those plans showed the

entrepreneurial realism it takes to succeed when one must simultaenously

master clinical skills and develop a small business.

 

I personally believe that an internship transition between school and self-

employment as an independent clinician would be of great benefit to

people's survival in practice.

Yes, I believe you are correct. That is also probably why physicians are

over-represented in the data, they are more likely to have professional

accounting help.

 

I would hesitate to draw hard-and-fast conclusions from these statistics but

it is clear they are not cause for celebration.
