Hydrating cautions

I like to mention known cautions and contraindications for anything

mentioned on here. I should have mentioned this in the previous post on

water.

It's a good idea not to drink a lot of water on an empty stomach. Eat

something, even if it's a cracker. The extra water - even when a person

needs it - can dilute electrolytes in the blood and cause problems. If a

person is susceptible to epilepsy, this can trigger an epileptic seizure.

Even in people without known or unknow health problems, drinking a lot of

water without eating something can trigger some very severe problems

including seizures and even psychoses.

Every once in a while someone gets the " bright " idea that in order to lose

weight, s/he is going to hike the Grand Canyon or hike in desert areas with

plenty of water but no food. As a result, electrolytes in the blood become

too dilute, and more than one person has had to be emergency air-vaced out

of the Grand Canyon or remote desert areas.
