Mint for - A September Herbal Spell

Mint is one of the herbs associated with the sun sign Virgo. The Mentha species is a vast and varied. For this herbal spell, we'll keep things practical -- a trademark quality of Virgo -- and work with common garden mints such as a spearmint (it's botanical name is Menta spircata) and peppermint (Mentha piperita). Magickally, mint is used for prosperity, healing, and protection.

Laying a sprig of fresh mint on your altar or magickal workspace will encourage the nature spirits to end a hand in any spellwork that you perform. The time of the year associated with mint is mid-summer to mid-autumn, which goes nicely with our Autumn Equinox and the sabbat of Mabon theme.

These popular mints are vigorous herbs with erect, square-shaped branching stems and very aromatic foliage. Mints are invasive plants in the garden. They will spread out aggressively unless you keep them under control. Try planting them inside of large containers and then sink the container in the ground. This will help keep the roots corralled and the plant size under control.

The mint is a stimulant. In aromatherapy, the scent of peppermint is bracing; it perks you up and helps your concentration. And, of course, the scent and taste of mint helps control nausea. Teas made with mint leaves will help soothe the nerves, settle the stomach, get rid of headaches, and aid in digestion. Mint is a fairly safe herb and popular for flavoring teas and many food dishes. But to be on the safe side, if you are nursing or pregnant, please consult with a physcian before drinking any herbal teas or taking herbal remedies.
