Guest guest
evening all, with the recent topic of EO and our pets, i was wondering if any one on the list had or has seen any documentation of catnip oil in regards to it's use on animals, especially horses? there is plenty on it's use with humans but i've yet to come across anything on animals. could it be toxic if ingested by horses? this year was a very bad year for our horses with foaling. there have been several references that the west nile vac. that's been given to the horses have attributed to some horrendous birth defects and that testing of the vaccine wasn't conducted accurately or of a duration to see the potential hazards involved. all of this has lead me to wonder if catnip would be a better way to go for us next year. any comments? deb c
Guest guest
I had mentioned last week that catnip oil was good to repel mosquitos. Here's an article link from another grp: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2001/08/010828075659.htm I still don't know where to get it. No one posted... but I'm gonna ask again to see if anyone knows. Thanks Esperanza

Guest guest
Hello Esperanza and everyone, Hope this Friday evening finds you all well. I was looking to get this myself. It seems to be quite pricey. I am wondering if a catnip tincture would work in a similiar fashion? Anyway here is an essential oil site I came across with the catnip oil. If you find anything more on it, please do post. http://www.essentialoil.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=21_40 Have a wonderful evening all Toni - Esperanza Friday, July 14, 2006 5:39 PM catnip oil I had mentioned last week that catnip oil was good to repel mosquitos. It is useful when blended with other repellant oils such as Citronella and Cedarwood. It is fairly reasonable through Essential Oil University. www.essentialoils.org is the webinformation on it. It is an oil that I would not be without for cold season too, so I think it is worth the investment. Cheers! Jessica

Guest guest
Try your local Drug Emporium. They often have cheap 100% essential oils. If that doesn't work, buy some catnip from a local herbal shop and make some " sun tea" out of it. Use about 1 oz. per two bottles of oil. It depends on how much money you have as to what kind of oil you use. I have used regular canola oil in a pinch , or sunflower oil . ( watch for allergies on that one. Some people are alllergic to sunflowers. ) This time of year, you can use any large clear glass jar with a plastic lid. Check the dollar store . Some people may prefer to use brown or green glass but sometimes this is harder to find. A large cheap wine gallon bottle maybe ? ) Leave it out in the sun for about a week, shake it twice a day. Used a large nylon or plastic mesh strainer, when it is done, and let it drip for a day or so over a manageable container. Just keep pouring it out and letting it drip until it is all dripped out. It may take several days, but nature is doing most of the work anyway, so ? ( I use another large widemouth jar that I got at the dollar store ) Then mash out what oil is left . I then store it in steralized longneck beer bottles , corked. I usually make a gallon of whatever I am making, but you might not want that much. This oil can be mixed with lotion to make it less greasy, so it will go a long way. I use this method to make magic natural healing oils and all sorts of good things. I have had good luck finding things fairly cheaper going to the Basement Shaman ( www.basementshaman.com ) ) and Soma Luna ( www.somaluna,com ) CLICK DAILY TO FEED AN ANIMAL IN NEED FOR FREE: http://www.animalrescuesite.com/
Guest guest
HI All, Thanks Deana for sharing those sites. Note that on the soma luna, your url has a comma after the luna instead of a period :)So clicking on it, can be a simple change at the browser bar Mountain Rose Herbs and Herbal com are just two wonderful sites also if someone is looking for dried herbs. Have a wonderful day all Be well and stay cool Tone - Deana Tuesday, July 18, 2006 2:34 PM Re: catnip oil Try your local Drug Emporium. They often have cheap 100% essential oils. Guest guest
Good eye, Toni, Thank you. A person that quick shouldn't have any problem at ALL cutting and pasting and correcting a typo. It is simple enough. Soma Luna has a lot of good supplies, and so does the basement shaman. They also have live plants that are very hard to find at times. Mountain Rose can be expensive at times. Frontier and Bay Spice also have a great selection of herbs, thier prices run a good medium. It always helps to have different resources.
