Is the Hezbollah attack against Israel on July 12 that started this

chain of events by Israel against Lebanon embedded into the

beginning of something much more sinister?

People of the Middle East are obsessed with symbolism, especially

when it strongly supports honor and dignity. When a statement by the

Supreme National Security Council of Iran says it will reply by Aug.

22 to the Western incentive package to stop enriching uranium, it

chose that date for a very precise reason.

August 21, 2006 (Rajab 27, 1427) is known in the Islamic calendar as

the Night of the Sira'a and Miira'aj, the night Prophet Mohammed

(saas) ascended to heaven from the Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem on a

Bourak (Half animal, half man), while a great light lit-up the night

sky, and visited Heaven and Hell also Beit al-Saada and Beit al-

Shaqaa (House of Happiness and House of Misery) and then descended

back to Mecca. The night of August 21 is a very, very important

night in Shia'a Islam. What Iran's Ahmadinajead is promising the

world by August 22 is the light in the sky over the Aqsa Mosque that

took place the night before. That is his answer to the package of

incentives the international community offered Iran on June 6.

The world and especially the US State Department should take this

date seriously. Nothing happens without a reason in Iran and the

events in Lebanon were intentionally started by Hezbollah, with

Iran's tacit knowledge and approval leading to the Rajab 27 night

when it delivers its answer, in the form of " light in the sky " , over

the Aqsa Mosque.

Ahmadinejad, seemingly responding to the first two planeloads of

American Jews making Aliyah (immigrating to Israel) this summer,

accused Israel of deceiving the olim. " They are even lying to the

misfortunate people whom they have imported into occupied

Palestine, " he said. " They are using them as a shield to achieve

their own goals. "

 

On Saturday, Ahmadinejad compared Israel to Hitler, saying " Just

like Hitler, the Zionist regime is just looking for a pretext to

launch military attacks. " Israel has pointed out that due to the two-

front proxy war orchestrated by Iran, the issues of Iran's dash

toward nuclear capability has been pushed out of the spotlight,

despite the regime's refusal to cooperate with international efforts

to find a solution.

 

The Iranian leader's statements about the Holocaust have made

headlines several times over the past year. Last week, he sent a

letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, which German officials

said asks her to assist Iran in " dealing with " Zionism.

 

In May Ahmadinejad wrote US President George W. Bush a lengthy

letter containing an invitation to become a Muslim and veiled

threats regarding continued alliance with Israel.

 

The Iranian president, whose previous positions included acting as a

trainer for child suicide soldiers sent to blow up mines in his

country's war against Iraq, issued several statements implying that

a battle to annihilate the Jewish State is at hand. " The day of joy

for the regional nations is approaching and the world is on the

verge of new developments, " he said in a speech in northwest Iran

Tuesday.

 

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, US President George W. Bush and even

Lebanese politician Walid Jumblatt have blamed Iran explicitly for

deploying Hamas and Hizbullah against the Jewish State.

 

The Iranian government has placed billboards of Hizbullah chief

Hassan Nasrallah around the country, with boldface slogans reminding

Muslims of their duty to wipe out Israel. Meanwhile, members of the

tiny Jewish community of Shiraz were seemingly compelled to attend a

rally in the town's square, calling for Israel's destruction and

praising Hizbullah.

 

Meanwhile, Syria has also issued a threat to become directly

involved in the war. Syrian Information Minister Mohsen Bilal said

Sunday, " If Israel invades Lebanon over ground and comes near to us,

Syria will not sit tight. She will join the conflict. "

 

During his weekly radio address Saturday, US President Bush warned

Syria to stay away. " For many years, Syria has been a primary

sponsor of Hizbullah and it has helped provide Hizbullah with

shipments of Iranian-made weapons,'' he said. " Iran's regime has

also repeatedly defied the international community with its ambition

for nuclear weapons and aid to terrorist groups. Their actions

threaten the entire Middle East and stand in the way of resolving

the current crisis and bringing lasting peace to this troubled

region. "

EVIDENCE MOUNTS THAT KANA " MASSACRE " WAS A FAKE

 

The world awoke to the news that an Israeli air strike had

killed 57 Lebanese civilians, leading Israel to stop air strikes for

2

days - but evidence shows the " massacre " was just a fraud.

The supposed massacre caused a major turnabout in world diplomacy. US

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice suddenly canceled her plans to

fly

to Beirut, saying " my work towards a ceasefire is really here [in

Jerusalem] today. " The implication was clearly that the onus was now

upon

Israel. French President Jacques Chirac condemned

Israel's " unjustified

action which demonstrates more than ever the need for an immediate

ceasefire, " Jordan's King Abdullah called it an " ugly crime, " and

other

world leaders echoed these sentiments.

 

Though Israel emphasized that Hizbullah was to blame for waging its

rocket war against Israel from within a civilian population, Foreign

Ministry officials repeated their " deep regret at the loss of

innocent life

in the campaign against Hizbullah, " and were forced to promise a

" thorough and comprehensive examination. "

 

Apparently, however, the incident was all one big fraud, staged by

Arab

elements for the world media in order to lead precisely to the

situation described above.

 

The central piece of evidence leading to this conclusion is the fact,

mentioned by IDF officials from the very beginning, that the building

collapsed a full seven hours after the Israel Air Force bombing. Why,

then, would the residents inside not have been evacuated in the

meantime?

As Brig.-Gen. Amir Eshel of the Israeli Air Force told reporters

Sunday

night, It is difficult for me to believe that they waited eight hours

to evacuate it.? Without additional evidence, Eshel merely left open

the possibility that Hizbullah terrorists, or explosives they left

behind, caused the explosion.

Gen. Eshel also said that the building was used by Hizbullah to store

explosives. This was supported by a letter by Dr. Mounir Herzallah, a

southern Lebanese Shiite, who wrote that Hizbullah terrorists came to

his town, dug a munitions depot and then built a school and a

residence

directly over it.

the bombing of the area occurred in three waves. The first bombs,

according to CNN correspondent Brent Sadler, did not hit the

building in

question, but rather landed " 20 or 30 meters " away. The second strike

hit targets further away, and the third strike, around 7:30 in the

morning, landed over 400 meters away. The first reports of a

collapsed

building arrived a half-hour later.

 

Another CNN correspondent, Ben Wedeman, noted that there was a larger

crater next to the building. He observed that the roof of the

building

was intact and that the building appeared not to have collapsed as a

result of the Israeli strike.

 

Thus, the building was used to store explosives, was apparently not

destroyed by the bombing, and sheltered dozens of women and children

throughout a night of bombing. The identity of the victims was also

not

clear, except that they were not the original occupants of the

building; a

National Public Radio correspondent reported that they had left. " The

victims were non-residents who chose to shelter in the building that

night, " Koret writes, and who were " 'too poor' to leave the town, one

resident told CNN's Wedeman. Who were these people? "

Other facts brought by Koret and Spencer:

 

* Sometime after dawn a call went out to journalists and rescue

workers

to come to the scene. Though Hizbullah has been claiming that

civilians

could not freely flee the scene due to Israeli destruction of bridges

and roads, the journalists and rescue teams from nearby Tyre had no

problem getting there.

 

* Lebanese rescue teams did not start evacuating the building until

after the camera crews came. The absence of a real rescue effort was

explained by saying that equipment was lacking. There were no scenes

of

live

or injured people being extracted.

 

* There was little blood, CNN's Wedeman noted, concluding that the

victims appeared to have died while they were sleeping - despite the

thunderous Israeli air attacks. Rescue workers equipped with cameras

were

removing the bodies from one opening in the collapsed structure, and

journalists were not allowed near it.

 

* Rescue workers carrying the victims on stretchers occasionally

flipped up the blankets so that cameras could show the faces and

bodies of

the dead. But, Koret noted, the ashen-gray faces of the victims gave

cause to think that the bodies looked like they had been dead for

days.

 

* Photos of the rescue operation transmitted all over the world are

" extremely suspicious, " Spencer writes, citing work by

bodies were paraded before reporters on different occasions, each

TEL AVIV, Israel In the aftermath of Qana, some of Israel's

supporters

encouraged on

background at times by Israeli officials explored the theory that

perhaps

the entire incident was a hoax. Such an idea is not without

precedence. In

2002, during Operation Defensive Shield, the (so-

called) : " palestinian "

Authority told

reporters that Israel's offensive into Jenin was a massacre with

thousands of

civilian casualties. It turned out that 52 Palestinians, most of

whom were

gunmen, died in the attack along with 23 Israeli soldiers. Since the

initial

casualty estimates of Qana of nearly 60 dead, those numbers have been

revised to 28.

The statement issued yesterday by Israel's military does not address

the

initial question posed by some military officers here as to why

there was

nearly a seven hour gap between when the missiles struck the

residential

building and it was first reported to have collapsed.

Earlier this week a former senior Israeli military officer said that

the IDF

was " certain that the building hit on Sunday was the residence of two

Hezbollah operatives. " The report says that the building was

targeted in

accordance with IDF guidelines " regarding the use of fire against

suspicious

structures inside villages whose residents have been warned to

evacuate, and

which were adjacent to areas from where rockets are fired towards

Israel. " It

goes on to say, " The guidelines were drafted based on surveillance

and study

of the behavior of the terrorists, who use civilian structures

inside villages

to

store weaponry and hide in after launching rockets attacks. " Israel

boasts of

a network of human sources in southern Lebanon and a variety of

electronic

means to survey Hezbollah activities.

FATAH SUPPORTS HIZBULLAH CALLS TO BOMB TEL AVIV

 

 

(IsraelNN.com) The " moderate " Fatah faction organized a rally in

Ramallah Tuesday in which protestors carried Hizbullah flags and

called

on Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah to bomb Tel Aviv. They also

burned

American and Israeli flags.

 

Fatah, which has been more popular than Hamas in the city, north of

Jerusalem, also was told by a leader that its terrorists should be on

alert against Israeli attacks in Judea and Samaria. Hani Al Hassan, a

former Palestinian Authority (PA) minister, warned the crowd, " I know

what I am talking about. "

UK, US weblogs question inconsistencies in photographs of Qana attack

flooding international media

A number of web logs in the United States and Britain have claimed

that a

man who appeared in much of the international press's coverage of

the Qana

bombing lifting children's bodies may have been a Hizbullah agent who

staged photo-ops for the international media.

Time Gap

(VIDEO) IDF continuing to check difficult incident at Qana village,

and

attempting to account for strange gap between time of the strike on

the

building - midnight - and eight in the morning, when the building

collapsed

 

 

Under the headline " milking it? " the EU Referendum blog , a British

website dedicated to taking the UK out of the European Union,

states: " Certainly, the photographs are distressing, and indeed they

are

meant to be. "

 

The blog focuses in on a man dressed as a rescue worker who appears

in

many photographs in the international press: " Note the 'rescue

worker' in

the foreground, complete with olive green military-style helmet and

fluorescent jacket, with what appears to be a flack jacket

underneath. "

 

It then shows a number of pictures, taken from different angles, by

Reuters

and the Associated Press, of the man holding the same child's body -

but

notes that there is a 4 hour time discrepancy between the time logs

of the

photographs.

The website posts a series of photographs of the same man holding the

child, each picture being separated by a significant time gap,

before finally

showing an AP photograph of the child's body in an ambulance taken at

7:21 in the morning - around nine hours before an AP photo was taken

of

the same child being held by the man in the green helmet.

 

A photograph is shown of " the same girl, this time apparently being

placed

in the ambulance. Also taken by AP? Intriguingly, though, the

dateline

given is 10.25 am, three hours after she has already been

photographed in

the ambulance. "

 

While in previous photographs the man carrying the child's body is

seen

without a fluorescent jacket and helmet, the website then shows

another AP

photograph " of the same worker, showing obvious distress, carrying

the

same girl. But now he is wearing his fluorescent jacket and helmet

and has

acquired latex gloves. "

 

Additional questions

 

An American weblog, Confederate Yankee, whose logo is

that " liberalism is

a vegetative state, " says that " in a picture that hits the wires

just one hour

(9:06 AM) after the building collapse, a Lebanese Red cross member

sits

with bodies already displaying significant rigor mortis. About.com

puts the

timing of maximum stiffness at about 12-24 hours after death. These

people

were supposed to have died within one hour of these photos being

taken. "

 

 

" Whatever else, the event in Qana was a human tragedy, " EU Referendum

said. " But the photographs do not show it honestly. Rather, they

have been

staged for effect, exploiting the victims in an unwholesome manner.

In so

doing, they are no longer news photographs - they are propaganda, "

the blog

concluded.

 

It also asks whether the workers' " presence at Qana on Sunday, and

his

central, unchallenged role, cannot have been a coincidence. Is he a

senior

ranking Hizbullah official? If not, who is he? "

 

Many other blogs have taken up the task of analyzing the photographs

and

news headlines from Qana, southern Lebanon, and the Middle East,

including: Little Green Footballs , Hotair.com , Ms. Underestimated ,

American columnist Michelle Malkin , and The Riehl World View .

 

The Riehl blog compares photographs of bodies of men to those of

women

and children in Qana and notes: " They certainly seem to be going to

a lot of

trouble to cover up what looks like a number of adult males, most

likely

Hizbullah fighters, while making sure that images of any children or

women

killed in Qana are fully exposed. "

Anti-Syrian elements in Lebanon openly point finger at

Hizbullah as guilty of killing of dozens of civilians in

Is Hizbullah behind the tragic incident in the village of

Qana that claimed the lives of some 60 people? While the

Israeli army continues to investigate the circumstances

leading to the building's collapse, some in Lebanon do not

hesitate to point the finger at the Shiite organization and

claim it is to blame for the death of dozens.

 

The Lebanese website LIBANOSCOPIE , associated with

Christian elements in the country and which openly supports

the anti-Syrian movement called the " March 14 Forces, "

reported that Hizbullah has masterminded a plan that would

result in the killing of innocents in the Qana village, in a

bid to foil Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora's " Seven

Points Plan " , which calls for deployment of the Lebanese

army in southern Lebanon and the disarming of Hizbullah.

 

'Disabled children placed inside building'

 

" We have it from a credible source that Hizbullah, alarmed

by Siniora's plan, has concocted an incident that would help

thwart the negotiations.

 

Knowing full well that Israel will not hesitate to bombard

civilian targets, Hizbullah gunmen placed a rocket launcher

on the roof in Qana and brought disabled children inside, in

a bid to provoke a response by the Israeli Air Force. In

this way, they were planning to take advantage of the death

of innocents and curtail the negotiation initiative, " the

site stated.

 

The site's editors also claimed that not only did Hizbullah

stage the event, but that it also chose Qana for a specific

reason: " They used Qana because the village had already

turned into a symbol for massacring innocent civilians, and

so they set up 'Qana 2'. " Notably, the incident has indeed

been dubbed " The second Qana massacre " by the Arab media.

Analysis: Chronology of a war

WASHINGTON, July 24 (UPI) -- Last May Israeli Prime Minister Ehud

Olmert paid his first visit to Washington as prime minister of the

state of Israel where he met President George W. Bush. The two

leaders had much to talk about; the war on terrorism, the war in

Iraq and the emerging threat of Iran building nuclear weapons. No

doubt also high on the agenda was the burning issue of Hamas, the

Islamist group now controlling the government of the Palestinian

authority. Hamas refuses to recognize the right of Israel to exist

and its charter calls for Israel's destruction.

Judging by the events now unfolding in the Middle East, there is

little doubt Olmert must have received a very clear green light from

Washington on how to deal with Hamas and Hezbollah.

Both Israel and the United States consider Hezbollah and Hamas to be

terrorist organizations, and Israel, with the blessing of the United

States, has taken on the task of trying to eliminate both threats,

particularly the one posed by Hezbollah.

According to the June 2 edition of London-based magazine al-Watan al-

Arabi, Hezbollah received intelligence that Olmert had obtained the

green light from Bush in the event of an open confrontation between

Hezbollah and Israel.

A short time after the meeting in Washington, Hezbollah Secretary-

General Hassan Nasrallah delivered a " Strategic Defense Plan, " to

the National Dialogue Committee (al-Hiwar al-Watani). The plan

outlined what Hezbollah should do in the event of an Israeli air,

land or sea assault on Lebanon.

Nasrallah said his movement had " thousands of rockets still at the

ready, " rockets targeted to hit Israeli cities and towns at any

time. His speech was reported in part by the Lebanese English

language newspaper The Daily Star in its May 24 edition.

Some days later, speaking at a " resistance culture " conference in

Beirut in celebration of the sixth anniversary of Israel's pullout

from south Lebanon, Nasrallah reiterated that " resistance is the

only feasible strategy for defending Lebanon against future and

current Israeli threats and violations. "

Nasrallah was quoted as saying " the Israelis know we have rockets...

If today I go on television to tell the residents of the settlements

(of northern Israel) that they should go down to the shelters, they

will all be in Tel Aviv in no time. "

Nasrallah, according to The Daily Star, said the resistance's views

on how to build a realistic defense strategy for Lebanon depended on

how Israel's weaknesses and strengths were calculated in comparison

with those of Lebanon. " Israel's weakest point lies on its northern

border with Lebanon, " said Nasrallah.

" We believe Israel is still the enemy and our resistance proved that

Israel can be defeated, while all other options have proven wrong

for as long as Israel has existed, " said Nasrallah,

adding " guerrilla fighting was Lebanon's sole option in the face of

the potential Israeli dangers. "

In other words, hints of luring Israel into an Iraq style situation.

Nasrallah said Hezbollah would be happy to discuss other options to

safeguard Lebanon's sovereignty and independence. " It is the only

available alternative before us, " he said, reiterating that northern

Israel remained " under the firing line " of his group's more than

12,000 rockets.

Fast-forward to late June: Hamas militants attack an Israeli army

outpost near Gaza and kidnap Cpl. Gilad Shalit. Israel's response

was immediate and fierce. Seventeen days later, in a meticulously

well-planned assault on an Israeli army position close to the south

Lebanese border, Hezbollah militiamen raided the post, killing eight

Israeli soldiers and kidnapping two.

The intriguing question: knowing the fate reserved for Gaza for the

kidnapping of one Israeli soldier, did Hezbollah miscalculate

Israel's reaction when it abducted two soldiers, or did they

anticipate it and therefore instigate it? And if so, why?

Also intriguing is what roles did Iran and Syria play, if any? If

Iran backed Hezbollah in escalating the conflict, what is it getting

in return for practically sacrificing Hezbollah, other than

diverting attention from its nuclear quest? Or does Iran hope to

expand the conflict by dragging Israel (and possibly the United

States) into a protracted guerrilla war in Lebanon? Does Iranian

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad believe the war is going to buy him

the time he needs to attain nuclear independence? Possibly. But the

expansion of the Iraq conflict to the Mediterranean is a more likely

scenario.

Ahmadinejad informed the International Atomic Energy Agency that the

Islamic republic would respond to the request that it stop its

Rajab (1422 AD) according to the Muslim calendar, is believed to be

the day after which the Prophet Mohammed is said to have journeyed

from Mecca to Jerusalem in a single night on a winged creature

called Buraq, and from Jerusalem he ascended into heaven. It is

known as Lailat al Miraj, when a great light lit the skies over

Jerusalem. Is there something more sinister to be read in this?

Another enigma is Syria. What does Damascus stand to gain from the

sacking of Lebanon and the risk of an expanded regional war? Syria's

economy is hurting and the risk of sanctions as a result of the

investigation into the murder of former Lebanese Prime Minister

Rafik Hariri would have been the coup de grace. Syria's Information

Minister Mohsen Bilal, in an interview with Spanish paper ABC said

Sunday Syria would enter the war in support of Hezbollah if Israel

launched a ground offensive and invaded Lebanon, and in the process,

approached the Syrian border.

Mark Steyn: If only they had refused to indulge Arafat

The myth that the Muslim world's problems are directly linked to the

(so-called) " palestinian " question has gone up in flames, argues

A FEW years back, when folks talked airily about " the Middle East

peace process " and " a two-state solution " , I used to say that the

trouble was the Palestinians saw a two-state solution as an interim

stage en route to a one-state solution. I underestimated Islamist

depravity. As we now see in Gaza and southern Lebanon, any two-state

solution would be an interim stage en route to a no-state solution.

 

In one of the most admirably straightforward of Islamist

declarations, Hussein Massawi, the Hezbollah leader behind the

slaughter of US and French forces 20 years ago, put it this way: " We

are not fighting so that you will offer us something. We are

fighting to eliminate you. "

Swell. But suppose he got his way, what then? Suppose every last Jew

in Israel were dead or fled, what would rise in place of the Zionist

entity? It would be something like the Hamas-Hezbollah terror squats

in Gaza and Lebanon writ large. Hamas won a landslide in the

Palestinian elections, and Hezbollah similarly won formal control of

key Lebanese cabinet ministries. But they're not Mussolini: they

have no interest in making the trains run on time. And, to be

honest, who can blame them?

If you're a big-time terrorist mastermind, it's frankly a bit of a

bore to find yourself deputy under-secretary at the ministry of

pensions, particularly when you're no good at it, and no matter how

lavishly the European Union throws money at you, there never seems

to be any in the kitty when it comes to making the payroll. So, like

a business that has over-diversified, Hamas and Hezbollah retreated

to their core activity: Jew-killing.

In Causeries du Lundi, Charles-Augustin Sainte-Beuve recalls a

Parisian dramatist watching the revolutionary mob rampaging through

the street below and beaming: " See my pageant passing! " That's how

opportunist Arabs and indulgent Europeans looked on the intifada and

the terrorists and the schoolgirl suicide bombers: as a kind of uber-

authentic piece of performance art with which to torment the Jews

and the Americans. They never paused to ask themselves: Hey, what if

it doesn't stop there?

Well, about 30 years too late, they're asking it now. For the first

quarter-century of Israel's existence, the Arab states fought more

or less conventional wars against the Zionists and kept losing. So

then they figured it was easier to anoint a terrorist movement and

in 1974 declared Yasser Arafat's Palestine Liberation Organisation

to be the " sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian

people " , which is quite a claim for an organisation then barely a

decade old. Amazingly, the Arab League persuaded the UN, the EU,

Bill Clinton and everyone else to go along with it and to treat the

old monster as a head of state who lacked only a state to head.

It's true that many nationalist movements have found it convenient

to adopt the guise of terrorists.

But, as the Palestinian movement descended from airline hijackings

to the intifada to self-detonating in pizza parlours, it never

occurred to its glamorous patrons to wonder if maybe this was, in

fact, a terrorist movement conveniently adopting the guise of

nationalism.

In 1971, in the lobby of the Cairo Sheraton, Palestinian terrorists

shot Wasfi al-Tal, the prime minister of Jordan, at point-blank

range. As he fell to the floor dying, one of his killers began

drinking the blood gushing from his wounds. Doesn't that strike you

as a little, um, overwrought? Three decades later, when bombs went

off in Bali, killing hundreds of tourists plus local waiters and

barmen, Bruce Haigh, a former Aussie diplomat in Indonesia, Pakistan

and Saudi Arabia, had no doubt where to put the blame. As he told

Australia's Nine Network: " The root cause of this issue has been

America's backing of Israel on Palestine. "

Suppose this were true: that terrorists blew up Australian

honeymooners and Scandinavian stoners in Balinese nightclubs because

of " the Palestinian question " . Doesn't this suggest that these

people are, at a certain level, nuts? After all, there are plenty of

Irish Republican Army sympathisers across the world (try making the

Ulster Unionist case in a Boston bar), yet they never thought to

protest against British rule in Northern Ireland by blowing up, say,

German tourists in Thailand.

Yet the more the thin skein of Palestinian grievance was stretched

to justify atrocities halfway around the world, the more the Arab

League big-shot emirs and EU foreign ministers looked down from

their windows and cooed, " See my parade passing! "

They've now belatedly realised they're at that stage in the creature

feature where the monster has mutated into something bigger and

crazier. Until the remarkably kinda-robust statement by the Group of

Eight and the unprecedented denunciation of Hezbollah by the Arab

League, the rule in any conflict in which Israel is involved -

Israel v PLO, Israel v Lebanon, Israel v (Your Team Here) - is that

the Jews are to blame. But Saudi-Egyptian-Jordanian opportunism on

Palestine has caught up with them: it has finally dawned on them

that a strategy of consciously avoiding resolution of the

Palestinian question has helped deliver Gaza and Lebanon and Syria

into the hands of a regime that's a far bigger threat to the Arab

world than the Zionist entity.

Cairo and co grew so accustomed to whining about the Palestinian

pseudo-crisis decade in, decade out, that it never occurred to them

that they might face a real crisis one day: a Middle East dominated

by an apocalyptic Iran and its local enforcers, in which Arab self-

rule turns out to have been a mere interlude between the Ottoman

sultans and the eternal eclipse of a Persian nuclear umbrella.

The Zionists got out of Gaza and it's now Talibanistan redux. The

Zionists got out of Lebanon and the most powerful force in the

country (with an ever-growing demographic advantage) are Iran's Shia

enforcers. There haven't been any Zionists anywhere near Damascus in

60 years and Syria is in effect Iran's first Sunni Arab prison

bitch. For the other regimes in the region, Gaza, Lebanon and Syria

are dead states that have risen as vampires.

Meanwhile, Kofi Annan in a remarkable display of urgency (at least

when compared with Sudan, Rwanda, Congo and others) is proposing

apropos Israel and Hezbollah that UN peacekeepers go in to keep the

peace not between two sovereign states but between a sovereign state

and a usurper terrorist gang. Contemptible as he is, the secretary-

general shows a shrewd understanding of the way the world is

heading: already, non-state actors have more sophisticated rocketry

than many EU nations; and if Iran has its way, its proxies will be

implied nuclear powers. Maybe we should put them on the UN Security

Council.

So, what is in reality Israel's first non-Arab war is a glimpse of

the world the day after tomorrow: the EU and the Arab League won't

quite spell it out but, to modify that Le Monde headline, they are

all Jews now.

RIYADH, July 25 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah warned on

Tuesday of war in the Middle East if Israel continues attacking

Lebanon and the Palestinians, in an apparent appeal to key ally the

United States to end the fighting.

" Saudi Arabia warns everybody that if the peace option fails because

of Israeli arrogance, there will be no other option but war, " state-

owned media quoted the king as saying.

His comments were unusually forthright for Saudi Arabia, which has

called for a ceasefire but has also blamed Lebanon's Hizbollah

guerrilla group for starting the fighting which has so far claimed

almost 400 lives in Lebanon and 41 in Israel.

Analysts say the kingdom, the world's top oil exporter, and other

key U.S. allies such as Jordan and Egypt fear that popular anger

could escalate and force them to take an aggressive stance over

Israel that angers Washington and worsens the crisis.

Arab governments have often said that since the last Arab-Israeli

war in 1973 they have decided to pursue peace as a means to end

disputes over occupied land and the status of the Palestinians, who

do not have a state.

The king's comments suggested that Arab governments could decide to

rethink that approach.

" No one can predict what will happen if things get out of control, "

said the statement from the king, who was due to hold talks with

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak later on Tuesday.

" The Arabs have declared peace as a strategic choice... and put

forward a clear and fair proposal of land for peace and have ignored

(Arab) extremist calls opposing the peace proposal... but patience

cannot last forever. "

The king was referring to an Arab peace initiative, proposed by

Saudi Arabia and adopted in a 2002 Arab summit, which offers Israel

a comprehensive peace in return for land it seized in a 1967 Middle

East war.

CONCERN OVER IRAN

Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia also sees Hizbollah, which has the backing

of many ordinary Arabs, as a tool for Shi'ite powerhouse Iran to

expand its influence in the Middle East.

" I think they are scared of being against public opinion which could

turn against them. As this goes on longer and more and more Lebanese

are killed, it looks bad for them, " said a Western diplomat in

Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia has repeatedly warned of Iran's " interference " in the

region, but its criticism of Hizbollah comes amid growing Arab anger

at the Israeli strikes which have ravaged Lebanon.

Most Arabs see Israel, which does not want to return all of the Arab

territories it seized in 1967, as more of a threat than Iran, whose

help is welcomed.

Israel launched its offensive after Hizbollah killed eight soldiers

and abducted two others in a July 12 border raid.

State media said Saudi Arabia had pledged $500 million to rebuild

Lebanon and $250 million for the Palestinians, who are also under

Israeli military siege following the capture of an Israeli soldier.

Saudi Arabia has been a major political and economic sponsor of

Lebanon since the 1975-1990 civil war was ended by a 1989 agreement

made in the Saudi city of Taif.

Late Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, who led reconstruction efforts,

was a Saudi national. Billionaire Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal is

one of Lebanon's major foreign investors, and Saudi Arabia has

played a key role in propping up the Lebanese pound.

Saudi television will hold a " telethon " on Wednesday to raise money

for Lebanon.

Iranian threats against Israel continue: Iranian media outlets

published sections of interviews given by Iranian Ambassador to

Lebanon Mohammad-Reza Sheybani, who said that Hizbullah's military

capability has greatly increased in the last decade, and threatened

that if Israel harmed Syria, the Iranians would respond with force.

 

Sheybani stressed that Iran would support Syria if it is attacked by

Israel. " There should be no doubt on this issue: If Syria is harmed,

even in the slightest way, we will respond with force. This, on the

basis of the joint defense agreement in effect between the two

countries and already signed by the two ministers of defense, " he

said.

 

Sheybani added that he thought " Israel did not have the ability to

deal with Iran's capabilities. "

 

The Iranian news agency Fars, closely associated with Iranian

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, published parts of the interview, and

reported that Sheybani denied that his country was transferring arms

to Hizbullah, but said that the organization has been busy heavily

arming itself since the IDF's withdrawal from Lebanon.

 

" There are those who ask whether Hizbullah's military ability

compares with that of Israel. Our answer is that the Hizbullah model

of 2006 is very different to the Hizbullah model of 1996, " Sheybani

said.

 

However, he denied that Iran armed the organization, and hinted that

the organization could be using weapons left behind by Israel in

Lebanon.

 

" After the withdrawal of Israel in 2000, a lot of weapons arrived in

the hands of Hizbullah. And therefore there is the possibility that

the sound of the missiles exploding in Haifa are known to Israelis:

These missiles were left there from 2000, " he claimed.

 

'Beginning of the end of Israel'

 

Addressing the possibility that the IDF may conquer parts of

Lebanon, Sheybani said: " In this war there is the chance that Israel

could enter Lebanese soil and hold parts of it - that's certainly a

possibility. But the problem is that if someone enters it's not sure

he will be allowed to leave, " the ambassador said.

 

Sheybani repeated the claim of the Hizbullah Chief Hassan Nasrallah

according to which no Hizbullah member was killed in IDF attacks,

and added that there nothing to be happy about in reports of the IDF

battle in Maroun al-Ras.

 

Sheybani's comments came a day after Hizbullah representative in

Iran, Hussein Sif al-Din, threatened that his organization planned

to increase its attacks in Israel, until " no place in Israel will be

safe. "

 

At a conference in Tehran, attended also by Hamas and Palestinian

Authority representatives, al-Din threatened that " this war will be

ISRAELI FORCES ATTACK ISLAMIC JIHAD WEAPONS WAREHOUSE IN GAZA

 

The Israel Air Force and IDF Southern Command carried out a joint

attack on an Islamic Jihad weapons factory and warehouse in the

Zeitous

neighborhood in Gaza on Monday.

Secondary explosions were seen at the site following the IDF attack,

confirming the existence of explosives in the warehouse.

 

Five terrorists were eliminated and 9 injured during an IDF strike

in

Beit Lahiya, where at least 7 Kassam rockets were fired at southern

Israel earlier in the day.

 

PA Arabs in northern Gaza said that dozens of families were leaving

their homes in the Awdah neighborhood near Beit Lahiya in

anticipation of

IDF attacks in the area.

 

Two rockets were fired from Beit Lahiya at Ashkelon, with one

landing

close to a strategic facility in the fifth-largest city. The second

landed in an open area. No injuries or damage was reported.

 

Two Kassams landed in the city of Sderot, which has absorbed

hundreds

of rockets in the past year alone. One rocket fell near the

entrance to

the city. The other landed in the Rabin neighborhood. There, too,

no

one was hurt and no damage was reported.

 

Later in the day, another rocket fell in the area of Kibbutz

Zikkim.

No injuries or damage reported.

 

Meanwhile, Hamas chairman and Palestinian Authority Prime Minister

Ismail Haniyeh appealed to the United States to intervene and put

and end

to Israel's incursion into Gaza. Haniyeh made his remarks during an

interview with The Associated Press, calling on the U.S. " to

restrain the

Israeli aggression and stop it. "

 

Haniyeh added, " All that we ask of the American administration is to

take a moral stance toward the Palestinian people, and the

Palestinian

suffering and to bear its responsibility as a superpower in this

world. "

AMIDST WAR, 650 FRENCH JEWS MOVE TO ISRAEL IN ONE DAY

 

Despite the Re-Engagement War, 650 French Jews arrived on Aliyah

(immigrating to Israel) Tuesday - the largest number to arrive in a

single

day since 1971.

 

The new immigrants arrived on two chartered Israir flights, one with

500 passengers from Paris and the other with 150 Jews from

Marseille.

They arrive in Ben Gurion Airport Tuesday afternoon and were greeted

by

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

 

The immigrants have received logistical assistance from AMI - the

French Aliyah organization, similar to its North American (and

British)

counterpart Nefesh b'Nefesh.

 

Similar to the lavish ceremonies organized by Nefesh b'Nefesh, the

French arrivals were greeted with refreshments and a large stage set

up at

the airport, with hundreds of friends, relatives and Aliyah

enthusiasts

on hand to greet them.

 

AMI reports that many of the new immigrants will be moving to

northern

Israel, and like the planeload of North Americans that arrived last

week, refused to postpone their plans due to the two-front war that

has

two million Israelis living in bomb shelters and temporary quarters.

 

Recent polls have shown that more half of young French Jews do not

see

themselves staying in France in the future.

While much of India's attention is devoted " excessive and

disproportionate military retaliation by Israel which has targeted

civilian infrastructure " as portrayed by the official statement, the

ongoing violence in West Asia is far more complicated than normally

recognised. The crisis underscores the perennial Lebanon struggle

for independence and sovereignty not only vis-a-vis its power

neighbours but also vis-a-vis militant groups inside.

Hezbollah, the Party of God, precipitated the crisis by ambushing

and kidnapping soldiers from inside the Israeli territory partly to

ward off attempts by the Beirut government to disarm the militants.

Its volley of rocket and missile attacks deep into Israel exhibited

not only its military capabilities but also its willingness to take

political risks against possible Israeli retaliation. In this

asymmetrical conflict Israel is fighting a military group that

operates independent of the central authority in Lebanon.

By taking on Israel and its might, Hezbollah seeks to portray itself

as a resistance force and thereby throttle any move by the Lebanese

authority to exercise complete control over the southern part of the

country, the traditional stronghold of Hezbollah. Even the

resolution of the UN Security Council calling for the disarming of

all militant groups remains on paper.

This defiance by the Hezbollah comes into conflict with the interest

of Lebanon, which in the past endured the consequences of such

adventures. At one level, the government of Fouad Siniora claimed it

was not involved in the kidnapping of the Israeli soldiers that

precipitated the current crisis. At the same time, the international

community cannot ignore that Hezbollah lawmaker Mohammed Fneish

holds the Energy portfolio. In short, while Hezbollah is part of the

government, Prime Minister Siniora was not party to Hezbollah's

actions against Israel!

This squarely puts Hezbollah at odds with the Lebanese government

and Israel seeks to capitalise on the internal tensions within

Lebanon. Through its massive retaliation against that country, it

hopes to turn the Maronite Christians, Sunni Muslims and Druze of

Lebanon against the pre-dominantly Shia Hezbollah. In other words,

while the entire country suffers from the ongoing violence, the

interests of Hezbollah and the non-Shia population of Lebanon are

not co-terminus.

At another level, the conflict also exhibits the inability of the

Lebanese government to exercise complete control over its territory.

For nearly three decades, Lebanon has been used as a battle field

for not only Israel and Syria but also Hezbollah and various

Palestinian militant groups. Until the summer of 2000, for nearly

two decades, much of southern Lebanon remained under Israeli

occupation.

The position of Syria was more enduring. Like the position of Saddam

Hussein vis-a-vis Kuwait, the Syrian leadership never recognized the

sovereignty and independence of Lebanon. It had never reconciled to

the formation of Lebanon and hence never recognized Lebanon as a

sovereign state. Not many would know that the Syrian representative

in Beirut was called `Governor' and not Ambassador. Hence the UN

Security Council Resolution 1680 adopted in May categorically called

on Damascus to " establish full diplomatic relations and

representation " with Beirut and recognize " Lebanon's sovereignty,

territorial integrity, and political independence. "

Three, since the April 2005 hasty withdrawal of the Syrian forces

from Lebanon, Hezbollah has emerged as the principal supporter of

Syrian interests in Lebanon. Despite the ideological differences

between the Islamic militants and the Ba'athist rulers in Damascus,

since the founding of Hezbollah in the early 1980s Syria has

remained its principal patron, supporter and supplier.

Without the logistical support provided by Syria, the Islamic

republic of Iran, which was instrumental in the formation of

Hezbollah, would not be able to provide political support, economic

largesse, military supplies and above all ideological fervour.

Hezbollah's serving the interest of these two countries puts it at

variance with the interests of the rest of the Arab world, which

sees the current crisis as an unnecessary, avoidable and

costly " adventure. "

Likewise, Hezbollah also served the interest of the Islamic Republic

and its periodic rhetoric vis-a-vis the Jewish state and the

militant group enables Iran to overcome the geographic constraints

and reach the borders of Israel. Their shared animosity towards the

peace process enabled both to work in tandem.

Above all, the kidnapping of the Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah took

place on 12th July, the deadline set by the international community

for the Iranian acceptance of the multilateral proposal for the

nuclear standoff. Since then the crisis along the Israel-Lebanese

border, and not Iran's suspected nuclear ambitions, has dominated

the international agenda. Even the meeting of G8 leaders in St.

Petersburg that was supposed to evolve a consensus stand vis-a-vis

Iran was hijacked by the new crisis.

Far from being under pressure from the international community over

the nuclear question, Iran seeks to consolidate its interest by

playing up its Hezbollah card.

While the international community, including Saudi Arabia and the

Arab League, blames the Hezbollah for its precipitating the current

crisis, it is no accident that only Iran and Syria support the

Hezbollah for its " misadventure. "

In short, not many in West Asia see the Hezbollah as a resistance

force but rather one of extremism and misadventure. Should New Delhi

see it differently?

War Dead Flown to Iran

JERUSALEM — The bodies of Iranian Revolutionary Guard soldiers

killed by the Israeli army in Lebanon have been transported to Syria

and flown to Tehran, senior Lebanese political sources said.

Israeli and Egyptian security officials confirmed the news, which

follows a report that first appeared in The New York Sun, that

Iranian forces posted to southern Lebanon have been aiding Hezbollah

terrorists in their attacks against Israel, including helping to

fire rockets into Israeli population centers.

The Lebanese sources said between six and nine dead Iranian

Revolutionary Guard soldiers were brought in trucks last week into

Syria for a flight back to Iran. They said the bodies were

transported along with the tens of thousands of Lebanese civilians

fleeing to Syria.

Since Israel began its military campaign in Lebanon two weeks ago

following a Hezbollah attack on the Jewish state in which two

Israeli soldiers were kidnapped, Syrian authorities have reported

that more than 140,000 Lebanese have entered their country, mostly

through open areas along the Syria-Lebanon border.

Israeli officials said Iranian Revolutionary Guards directed the

firing two weeks ago of a radar-guided C–802 missile that hit an

Israeli navy vessel off the coast of Lebanon, killing four soldiers.

Israel says Iran acquired the missile from China.

The officials said the Iranian soldiers' duties include keeping

custody of long-range missiles within Hezbollah's arsenal, including

Zalzal rockets that are said to have a range of 125 miles, placing

Tel Aviv within firing range.

Jordanian officials told the Sun they are " 100% sure " Iranian

Revolutionary Guard soldiers have fired rockets into Israel. They

also said the Syrian army has provided Hezbollah with intelligence

information on the locations of strategic Israeli targets to aid in

Hezbollah rocket fire.

A Baath Party official operating out of the Golan Heights told the

Sun he has information that Iranian soldiers have been firing

rockets into Israel.

It would be " very logical " if Iranian Revolutionary Guard soldiers

were helping Hezbollah fire the rockets, a senior Egyptian security

official told the Sun.

Israel has long maintained that Iranian Revolutionary Guard units

have traveled regularly to south Lebanon to help train local

Hezbollah fighters in terrorist tactics and to fortify Hezbollah

positions along Israel's northern border.

At times, Revolutionary Guard soldiers have been seen operating

openly at Hezbollah outposts in plain view from the Israeli side,

military officials say.

Earlier, an Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman, Mark Regev, said

Israel has information that Hezbollah was trying to transfer the two

soldiers it kidnapped to Iran.

About 7,000 people took part on Sunday in a pro-Israel rally in

London. The rally, which was organized by Jewish groups, took off

from the Jewish Free School in the north of the capital.

 

Protesters waved placards reading " Israel, you are in our hearts "

and " Yes to peace, no to terror " . Israel's Ambassador to Britain Zvi

Hefetz said that Israel " was not alone " implicating the Jewish State

is enjoying broad support by the international community.

The rally attracted not only Jews. Among participants one could see

children, youth movement members, and adults.

 

One of the rally's climaxes was a speech by a council leader of a

community in northern Israel which was broadcast live.

 

Chief Rabbi Sir Jonathan Sacks said: " Israel is fighting today in

Lebanon because six years ago it withdrew from Lebanon.

 

" Israel is fighting today in Gaza because one year ago it withdrew

from Gaza. And Israel discovered the terrible truth spoken by the

late Mother Theresa - that no good deed goes unpunished. "

 

On Saturday, thousands of demonstrators marched through London to

protest against Israeli attacks in Lebanon and the refusal of the US

and British governments to condemn them.

 

 

Police said around 7,000 people joined the London protest as it

snaked from the banks of the Thames to Hyde Park, first in brilliant

sunshine and then in torrential rain.

 

Many carried red and white Lebanese flags and placards

condemning " Israeli crimes in Lebanon. "

 

" We are all Hizbullah. Boycott Israel " read one. " Axis of evil:

Bush, Blair, Olmert, " read another, referring to the political

After a week of protests all around the world against the IDF's

operations in Lebanon it was nice to hear different voices on

Sunday.

 

Thousands of Jews and Israel supporters were not scared off by the

hot weather - 32 degrees - and dedicate two hours of their day off

to hold a demonstration in Los Angeles to support Israel and her war

against Hizbullah.

The demonstration, an initiative of the Jewish Federation of Los

Angeles, saw over ten thousand Jews and Israelis living in the

United States and immigrants from the former Soviet Union, as well

as Christians and many other non-Jews take part.

 

In the early afternoon a long section of a Los Angeles' splendid

Wiltshire Boluevard was closed to traffic.

 

The street was packed with people and it was difficult to see where

it ended. Large police forces guarded the area and prevented a

handful of Arab supporters of Hizbullah and Hamas from approaching

the demonstration.

 

Speakers included California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Los

Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Wiesenthal Institute Head Rabbi

Marvin Hier, Israel's General Consul Ehud Danoch, rabbis from all

streams of Judaism and heads of Christian churches.

 

The speakers harshly condemned Hizbullah, Hamas, Iran and Syria, and

stressed Israel's right to self-defense.

They mocked the United Nations for failing to realize its own

decision on disarming Hizbullah and the spreading out of the

Lebanese army on the border with Israel (resolution 1559).

 

Remembering kidnapped soldier

 

At the start of the demonstration the names of three kidnapped IDF

soldiers were mentioned - Gilad Shalit, Eldad Regev, and Ehud

Goldwasser. Demonstrators carried placards showing, among others,

pictures of UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan shaking hands warmly

with Nasrallah.

 

 

Rabbi Hier criticized the Lebanese government for declaring that its

army would fight the IDF when Israel uses ground forces in southern

Lebanon.

 

" For six years, they didn't do a thing to stop Hizbullah, but

suddenly they have motivation and energy to fight Israel, " Rabbi

Hier said.

 

Governor Schwarzenegger told of his many visits to Israel, and

recalled that his first trip abroad after being voted into his role

was to Israel.

 

He offered support for the Israeli people and especially northern

residents under attack and forced to sit in bomb shelters.

 

All of California stands by Israel in its just struggle against

extremist Islamic terror organizations who oppose all peace

arrangements, said the former Hollywood star.

 

Some speakers condemned what they said was the self-righteous

criticism of countries and organizations, especially that of the

European Union, and its claim that Israel is responding

disproportionately to the Hizbullah attack. If they faced the same

situation, the speakers said, their response (The EU) would be much

harsher.

Apocalyptic signals from Iran worry U.S. intelligence

The U.S. intelligence community has not been surprised by Iran's

refusal to respond to a Western incentive package to suspend its

uranium enrichment. Intelligence sources said Iran, following North

Korea's model, intends to delay any response or negotiations for as

long as possible.

The European Union and the United States demanded that Iran reply to

the Western incentive package of nuclear technology, fuel and

aircraft by June 29. But Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has

said Teheran would submit an answer by Aug. 22.

 

The U.S. intelligence community has been trying to figure out why

Ahmadinejad chose that date. Sources said the community was stumped

until some Islam experts translated the Gregorian date to that of

the Muslim calendar.

Aug. 22 corresponds to Rajab 27 on the Muslim calendar. The date is

called Lailat Al Israa, when Mohammed ascended to heaven from the Al

Aqsa mosque to receive the five daily prayers. Later, Al Aqsa came

to represent Jerusalem.

Ahmadinejad could be hinting to the West that he is preparing a

major attack on Israel. Or, the Iranian president could be warning

that unless the West caves in, he would escalate tension in the

region. The lightening in Mohammed's story could represent Iranian

missiles. What is clear is that Ahmadinejad does not see himself as

an Iranian leader, but a Muslim prophet, using imagery to portray

himself as a messiah for both Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims.

Iran, Looking for missile launch sites and signs of probable intent

to launch missiles. I agree that missile launch attempts are near.

Should such sites be detected, it must be reasoned that a test

launch in not the order of the day.

I would also be watching for missile launch sites in Syria, Jordan,

Yeman, Egypt. Never can tell which one of the Israel hating places

will launch.

The mad man in Iran seems determined either to die in victory or die

Why August 22?

Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has rejected Western demands that

he respond to a new proposal regarding the cessation of Iran's

nuclear efforts by the middle of this month.

To the consternation of officials in Europe and Washington,

Ahmadinejad promised only to respond by the end of the Iranian month

of Mordad (August 22).

Why that date? Why so long to look over a simple package of

incentives and give either a negative or a positive reply? Finding

the answers to these troubling questions may require America and

Europe to come to terms with a reality Western liberalism has done

its best to ignore - that Islam remains engaged in a clash of

civilizations with the Judeo-Christian world.

You see, Ahmadinejad is a strong believer in the Shi'ite tradition

of a 12th imam, the so-called " hidden " Imam Mahdi who Allah has

miraculously kept alive since his disappearance in 874 AD. As the

story goes, Imam Mahdi will return at a time of great global chaos,

oppression and bloodshed and usher in an era of (Islamic) justice.

Ahmadinejad sees himself as Allah's instrument to pave the way for

Imam Mahdi, and constantly uses public appearances to urge his

countrymen to prepare to back him in this task.

Rumor is, Imam Mahdi could be returning this August (or shortly

thereafter), just around the time some military experts believe Iran

will be ready to construct its first nuclear weapon. Go figure.

Ahmadinejad has made clear his confidence that he and other true

believers can affect this apocalyptic timetable, and will use all

means at his disposal to do so.

Also of note is that August 22 of this year corresponds with the

Islamic date of Rajab 28, the day Saladin conquered and entered

Jerusalem.

Taken in conjunction with Ahmadinejad's stated desire to see Israel

people aboard were killed.

(CBS) A high-ranking al Qaeda detainee told investigators the

intended target of United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed into a

Pennsylvania field on Sept. 11, was the White House.

Government sources said Abu Zubaydah, now in U.S. custody, is

believed to be the source of the information. He is being

interrogated by U.S. officials at an undisclosed location.

Investigators have linked Zubaydah directly to hijackers on board

Flight 93.

United Flight 93 took off from Newark, N.J., and crashed in Somerset

County, Pa.. A recorder on the plane and calls made to people on the

ground indicate passengers fought for control with the hijackers

before it went down.

Officials previously had assumed the White House was a likely

target, but said the Capitol and CIA headquarters in McLean, Va.,

near Washington were other possibilities.Abu Zubaydah is believed to

said. As al Qaeda's top operational planner, he ran the Khalden camp

in Afghanistan, where U.S. investigators have learned many of the

Sept. 11 hijackers trained. This suggests Abu Zubaydah may have had

direct contact with the hijackers and chosen them for training.

He also had telephone contacts with at least one Arab student at

U.S. flight schools, according to a July 10, 2001, memo from a

Phoenix FBI agent.

The CIA, FBI and Pakistani authorities captured and wounded Abu

Zubaydah in a raid by in Faisalabad, Pakistan, in March. He is

believed to have masterminded the failed millennium bombing plots in

Los Angeles and Jordan, and has been linked to failed plots on the

U.S. embassies in Paris and Sarajevo.

Abu Zubaydah was also indirectly linked, through a web of

associations with other al Qaeda members in Europe, to lead Sept. 11

hijacker Mohammed Atta and his cell in Hamburg, Germany. Three

members of the Hamburg cell were suicide hijackers; three others are

still at large. Ziad Jarrah, believed to be the pilot-hijacker of

Flight 93, was a member of the Hamburg cell. "

On July 7th, 1994 Yasser Arafat, PLO chairman drove from Egypt into

Gaza, after 27 years in exile. What Arafat was doing was using the

date of July 7th to re-write a perceived wrong he had felt some

years earlier on another July 7th. It was on July 7th 1986 that the

government of Jordan closed the offices of Yasser Arafat's al-Fatah.

Because a bus bombing occurred in London on July 7th, 2005 it struck

me that the nation that has endured more bus bombings than any other

nation is Israel. There may be a connection between the July 7th,

2005 attacks in London and the terrorists who have targeted Israel

with bus bombings for years.

Recently terrorists in Iraq murdered Egypt's envoy to Iraq.

News reports from al-Jazeera and al-Arabia satellite TV stations

said that Egypt's top diplomat in Iraq to Iraq, Eyhab al-Sharif, had

been executed.

Meantime, Al-Qaida organization in Iraq, led by Abu Musab al-

Zarqawi, had threatened in a statement on the Internet to execute

the chairman of the Egyptian diplomatic mission al-Sharif.

The threat to execute Sharif came a short time after al-Qaida

organization in Iraq issued pictures for the identity cards of the

Egyptian diplomat as an evidence that they are the ones which

kidnapped him.

The statement said the legitimate court of al-Qaida organization in

Mesopotamia decided to " send the ambassador of the state of Egypt to

the Mujahideen (indivduals from Egypt and other states that go to

Iraq to fight with the insurgents) to execute the death penalty

against him. " The statement considered that " the embassies in

Baghdad are but monitoring sites to snipe the arriving Mujahideen

and preventing them from having access to their brothers in Jihad in

the land of Mesopotamia (Iraq) and in Afghanistan. "

In an attempt to prove that the Egyptian ambassador is their

possession, al-Qaida organization published documents including a

driving Sharif's license and a work card for him at the foreign

ministry and another one for health insurance. On Tuesday the

organization claimed responsibility for kidnapping Sharif. "

 

American Airlines Flight 11 which left Boston's Logan Airport bound

for Los Angeles before being piloted into the North Tower of the

World Trade Center.

Saddam Hussein assassinated his first victim when he was 11 years

old. Fixated on the number 11 ever since then he easily focused on

the World Trade Center as a target because it looked so much like a

number 11 that WPIX TV Channel 11 in New York City used the World

Trade Center in its logo for years.

The World Trade Center also housed an office of the Bank of Kuwait.

Saddam used Rahman's group to punish Sadat for failing to defeat

Israel in the attack on Israel of October 6th, 1973. Saddam also

used Sheik Rahman's group to hit the Speaker of the Egyptian

Parliament during the first Gulf War when Egypt sided with America

against Iraq.

Saddam, acting like a child who is deprived of a toy, who

subsequently

breaks that toy, set fire to the Kuwaiti oil fields as he was being

driven out of Kuwait during the first Gulf War in 1991.

west side, which faces the Mall. Again, for a controlled, straight-in

approach, a pilot first would need to avoid the Washington Monument,

and then fly straight down the Mall. There is more room to do this,

but again, it would take considerable skill. Moreover, the buildings

in Roslyn, just across the river from and to the west of the Mall,

would have to be cleared, which means the plane's altitude would

probably be too high, or the angle of descent too steep to permit a

successful attack by anyone other than a skilled, experienced pilot. "

engaging in what to them was a private joke regarding their plans

for 9/11/2001.

Moving the money...

In the welter of events following the bombing of the World Trade

Center in Feb. 26, 1993, few noticed that the first man arrested,

Mohammed Salameh—the poor, unemployed illegal immigrant—

offered $5 million for bail. Where could he get this kind of money?

The judge refused bail. But was the source of Salameh's offer the

same as the one that funded the eight men—arrested shortly

afterward—who planned to blow up Manhattan's tunnels and bridges

and to assassinate public officials?

Were the same money sources behind the final attack on the World

Trade Center on Sept. 11?

.... For a long time, there has been evidence that terrorist,

international drug trafficking and criminal organizations use the

same fund-raising methods to enrich themselves.

Yet no one seemed to connect the dots. And no one seriously tried to

crack down on their financing.

Bin Laden's is only one among many hostile international criminal

organizations, often state-sponsored, that will do whatever they can

to diminish the status of the United States as the only superpower.

According to a State Department report, the Taliban, who are at bin

Laden's service, has the advantage of controlling the world's

largest heroin production and distribution in the world.

Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, the heroin production

soared to hundreds of tons each year. In 1999 alone, the world

production of heroin was estimated at 500 metric tons; 400 were

produced by the Taliban and available to fund bin Laden and his

associates worldwide. First warning

The writing was on the wall on July 5, 1991, when the Bank of

England shut down what was the most important Islamic bank in the

world, the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI). This

criminal entity was created by the Pakistani Aaga Hassan Abedi " to

fight the evil influence of the West " ; to help with the creation of

the " Islamic Bomb " ; to finance all Muslim terrorist organizations;

and to launder the money that was generated mostly by illicit drug

trafficking and other illegal activities, including arms

trafficking.

When BCCI went belly up, we learned from thousands of documents that

Abu Nidal—the notorious Palestinian terrorist organization that

now enjoys the hospitality of Iraq's Saddam Hussein, the Palestine

Liberation Organization (PLO), Hezbollah and bin Laden—had

accounts in the bank. By the end of the 1980s, the " special

services " provided by BCCI included access to Western humanitarian

and international development funds, as well as drug money

laundering, secret transfers of cash and bribes.

A " Black Network, " a special enforcement unit supported by Abu Nidal

and other terrorist organizations, operated from Pakistan. The same

Pakistan that harbored bin Laden for many years while its officials

told the United States that they didn't know his whereabouts. And

the same Pakistan that for decades, even according to the State

Department's annual report, had been a major drug trafficking and

money laundering center.

 

Western blindness

Yet, now more importantly, we also discovered that the American and

British governments knew and kept the bank open for a long time. The

bank " that would bribe God " was able to get away with its criminal

activities for decades due to Abedi's clever portrayal of the Muslim

nations as victims of Western—and particularly U.S.—

" imperialism. " And when the bank was shuttered, the accusation in

the Muslim/Arab and Third World countries was that the U.S. and the

United Kingdom governments closed the bank to curtail the growing

fiscal power of Muslim countries.

Like Abedi, anti-American, anti-Western terrorist and radical Muslim

states and organizations, such as the Taliban, Al Qaeda, Hamas,

Hezbollah, the PLO, Iraq and Iran, use Western democratic rhetoric

to their advantage. But it is the willful blindness, mainly toward

the growing volume of drug money laundering, exercised by Western

bankers on the one hand and Western politicians on the other, that

makes money laundering possible, despite the many laws and

international conventions to control this phenomenon.

The BCCI was the first warning to the West. The second warning about

the abuse of European and American financial markets by terrorist

organizations, as well as their involvement in the illicit arms and

drug trade, was made in February 1994 by the British National

Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS).

The Organized Crime Unit of the NCIS warned that Middle East

terrorist groups and states were targeting the financial centers of

London, Frankfurt and other Western countries, and that they favor

illegal drug trafficking, money laundering and fraud....

Clinton appeasement

Despite its stated policy of not negotiating with terrorists, the

Clinton administration went out of its way to appease a few of the

20th century's most notorious terror groups: the Revolutionary Armed

Forces of Colombia (FARC), the PLO and the Irish Republican Army.

All are heavily involved in the drug trade.

On the eve of the 1993 handshake on the White House lawn between

Israeli Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin and PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat,

Britain's National Criminal Intelligence Service estimated the PLO's

ill-gotten gains to total between $8 billion to $10 billion, with an

annual income of about $1.5 billion to $2 billion from " donations,

extortion, payoffs, illegal arms dealing, drug trafficking, money

laundering, fraud, etc. "

Since then, Washington has only aided and abetted the PLO. Since the

start of the Oslo process, Arafat has received at least $3 billion

more from the United States and the international community, without

any serious demand for accountability, according to a report this

year to Congress. Arafat, in well-documented instances, has been

systematically skimming off portions of these funds, as he has with

monies given to him on behalf of the refugees in the camps.

The PLO was in the drug trafficking business almost from the

beginning. Operating from Lebanon, under Habash's able leadership

and assisted by a PLO-owned shipping company SUMUD, the organization

exported hashish, opium, heroin and cocaine, first to Europe and

later even to the United States and Australia. In return, it

obtained weapons for their war against Israel and the West, and

amassed a massive treasure trove. In addition, the PLO and Arafat,

who enjoy the financial and strategic support of Hussein and bin

Laden, have the distinction of being the organization that

promoted " suicide bombers " as a weapon.

Yet the Clinton administration subsidized a multitude of radical

Palestinian groups, ranging from Arafat's Fatah branch of the PLO

and its military wing, the Tanzim, to the socialist-nationalist

Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), headed by

George Habash, all with close ties to bin Laden, Iraq and Iran.

....It was the Clinton White House that, despite evidence to the

contrary, removed Syria from its list of the drug trafficking

countries, to entice Syria to join the " peace process " in the Middle

East.

The failure of that process and the compromises the United States

has made to maintain an illusion of peaceful prospects had no doubt

added to the Muslim radical terrorists' resolve to attack what they

see as a naive and vulnerable America.

In another example of self-delusion, in 1999, then Secretary of

State Madeleine Albright suggested a U.S.-led coalition to negotiate

with the FARC and supported Colombia President Pastrana's " land for

peace " initiative, despite a report from the General Accounting

Office that the FARC is running a major international criminal

enterprise that, among other things, supplies hundreds of tons of

cocaine and heroin to the U.S. black market.

This second Clinton " land for peace " initiative gave half of

Colombia to the narco-terrorist FARC, while doing nothing to

diminish its violence or appetite to control the rest of the
